Xbox Controller config different on Steam Link
- I'm using an Xbox 360 Controller
- I've set AC settings to use my controller and it works
- I've not had this problem with other games
- I'm using a steam link
- Xbox controller is set up in steam settings
- controller works fine and is configured correctly when plugged in to pc and playing AC - just not when plugged in to steam link

Does anyone know why my controller button configurations are different playing from my steamlink? Is it a problem with the game, or with something set up within steam?

Please, this is a problem in a long series of technological problems I've had this week, I'm at my wits end

The triggers control the view and it's driving me insane

There is a known issue with AC1 and AC2 not recognising or having correct mappings for Xbox controllers.

Otherwise, there is an "x360ce" solution, as explained on PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com]:
  • Use x360ce (source[github.com])
  • A pre-made fix[community.pcgamingwiki.com] is available including support for vibration.

  1. Download the 32-bit (x86) version of x360ce[www.x360ce.com] and extract it to
    <path-to-game>[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
    .
  2. Run
    x360ce.exe
    and either configure your controller manually or allow the program to select a configuration. Select
    Save
    to save your changes.

  3. Close
    x360ce.exe
    and open the newly generated
    x360ce.ini
    file in
    <path-to-game>[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
    .
  4. Between
    [Options]
    and
    [Mappings]
    add, or replace, the following:
    [InputHook]
    HookCOM=1
    HOOKDI=1
    HOOKPIDVID=1
    HookName=1

  5. Save and close the file.

  6. The controller should now function correctly, but additional steps are required to enable vibration.

  7. Open
    x360ce.exe
    and select the active controller (Controller 1 by default) if necessary.

  8. Select the Advanced tab and enable
    Force Feedback Pass Through
    .
  9. Select the Force Feedback tab and enable
    Enable Force Feedback
    .
  10. Click Save and close the application.

If you still have issues with remapping the controller buttons - and the above information doesn't help - see general workarounds on PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com].

I saw those fixes but since it works perfectly with my controller plugged in to the pc I thought it might just be irrelevant to my problem.

Anyway, I'll try it tomorrow (because I am SO done with moving back and forth between my pc and tv right now - I've been doing it all day) and see how it goes

Unsurprisingly this did not work. The issue is specific to the controller being plugged in to the steam link.

It works fine plugged in to the pc
