There is a known issue with AC1 and AC2 not recognising or having correct mappings for Xbox controllers.

There is a new x360ce solution in case that was the issue, as explained on PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com]:
  • Use x360ce (source[github.com])
  • A pre-made fix[community.pcgamingwiki.com] is available including support for vibration.

  1. Download the 32-bit (x86) version of x360ce[www.x360ce.com] and extract it to
    <path-to-game>[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
    .
  2. Run
    x360ce.exe
    and either configure your controller manually or allow the program to select a configuration. Select
    Save
    to save your changes.

  3. Close
    x360ce.exe
    and open the newly generated
    x360ce.ini
    file in
    <path-to-game>[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
    .
  4. Between
    [Options]
    and
    [Mappings]
    add, or replace, the following:
    [InputHook]
    HookCOM=1
    HOOKDI=1
    HOOKPIDVID=1
    HookName=1

  5. Save and close the file.

  6. The controller should now function correctly, but additional steps are required to enable vibration.

  7. Open
    x360ce.exe
    and select the active controller (Controller 1 by default) if necessary.

  8. Select the Advanced tab and enable
    Force Feedback Pass Through
    .
  9. Select the Force Feedback tab and enable
    Enable Force Feedback
    .
  10. Click Save and close the application.

Failing that, this guy had a similar issue and a simple restart of computer resolved the issue for them (see post here for reference).

Otherwise, these guides might be worth looking at:

If you have any issues with remapping the controller buttons - and the above information doesn't help - see general workarounds on PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com].

i figured out the problem. and if someone with my issue has this let them know my fix please. i have the anne pro 2 keyboard. this is cool and all, but it has functionality that allows it to be used as a controller. if you go to device manager and DISABLE: "HID-compliant consumer control device, HID-compliant device and HID-compliant game controller." then do the fix that you mentioned above, what worked for me was the "pre-set with vibration fix". it should all work fine. this took me a ful day of testing and even broke the controllers use-ability for about an hour until i updated the drivers. this is a very small case and i doubt anyone else is going to have it. but if you have an anne pro 2 60% keyboard. this is garunteed to happen to you

Absolutely none of the solutions offered in this thread work for me. From a fresh install, the game has the expected partial controller support. Right stick doesn't work at all, triggers rotate the camera, the button mappings show generic numbers instead of corresponding symbols, whatever.

With any of these solutions in place, the control customization screen shows the correct mappings and symbology ("High Profile" is assigned to "RT"), but in game, the controller doesn't work *at all*, not even in the limited capacity of "partial controller support".

Say what you want about how great computer gaming is over console gaming, but at least everything on consoles just works.
