Grabbing a ledge while falling?
Right in the beginning of the game, one of the tips given by the girl as your entering the animus is, "If you're falling, be sure to grab a ledge." For the life of me I can't figure out how. Does anyone know?

If your Altair has been demoted already you wouldn't be able to perform the grab ledge move until he re-learns this skill. (Doesn't make sense he would just forget this skill I know, but it is what it is).

Once Altair re-learns this skill, you can hold shift when falling, if there is a grabbable ledge that he can reach, he will grab it, preventing further falling and any fall damage that would otherwise have incurred.

Okay. Thank you.

Animus tips are for the entire game. If you hear a tip, it doesn't mean you can just go and apply it immediately. Just remember it until you get an opportunity to do so. Altair can only grab ledges with the help of the gloves that he only gets in Memory Block 4. And because Altair has all of his equipment in the prologue, it means you can do that while playing Memory Block 1. It's just you can only really explore Masyaf at that point.

I've always seen it like this. Demoted assassins don't "forget" their skills, they are just not allowed to use them until they go up the ranks again. It's like a proof of strenght both phisical and psychological. Like, "Yes, I could grab this ledge because I'm able to do that but I'm not allowed to do that because of my past errors. I must find another way to survive"

That is... Absolutely ridiculous, and nonsensical. You're saying he "psychologically handicaps" himself from doing something as simple as grabbing a ledge? A basic human reaction to falling? I don't think even the earliest assassin's in the series are stupid enough to wing-clip themselves when they need to survive/accomplish their goal.

It's not psychological handicap or anything. He simply can't do that without reinforced gloves that he gets at some point. Skill is directly tied to the equipment. Same with Dodge that is only unlocked after Altair gets better boots.

You are very... aggressive. Disagree on something is perfectly normal, but all this ill-concealed acerbity? That's out of place. Please remember that being hostile to strangers on the internet is never a good sign for one's mental health. You may want to seek help.
