Putting steam in offline mode before starting the game SEEMS to have fixed the problem. NEw Question: WHY does this game need to contact Ubisoft servers?! It has no online play! It has no nothing! It shouldn't be trying to talk to ANYBODY.
What made me stop buying any Ubisoft games is because the lack of quality control over their old games and maintenance. this issue has been going for long years now and Ubisoft never updated or solved the problems of their old games.
However I will try your method of going offline mode while playing and see if it also prevents constant freezing as it will allow me to use the internet on my PC while playing.
1- going offline mode in Ubisoft: Game still freezes
2- Blocking all connection for the game inbound and outbound: Game still freezes
3- I said to myself, you know I bought the game so using the cracked application to run this game wont be bad since the game is already bought. I tried and it... The game still freezes.
So the only solution is to turn off your internet. What amazing software engineering Ubisoft that requires such barbaric solution for your consumers to use your products.
This is pretty serious and it is not a valid solution to tell paying customers to disconnect or go offline for one old game. I hope whatever developer(s) remain sort out something that messes with the very playability of the game regardless of OS seemingly.
Yes, unfortunately you're right. i thought the offline mode had fixed my problem, but as soon as I started playing the game properly it went right back to freezing. I believe you and I are talking about the same exact freezing problem. According to the other post i saw regarding this in these discussion posts, Ubisoft recently updated servers, so it's supposed to take a few days to uh..spread? to everyone? somehow? But yeah, in the meantime, the only way to get it to work is turning off your internet completely.
Which of course doesn't work for me, because the whole damn reason i was playing the game is to STREAM IT. So until it's fixed I either have to stream with this frankly unplayable freezing issue, or just not stream this game.
Ubisoft has been always using the "We updated the servers" excuse for like eons now for every single time something bad happens. However I say goodluck and I had to finish the game while disconnected. God I hope it does not have the same issues with the rest of the AC series because I am doing full run from AC till the end.
203.132.26.155 127.0.0.1
After adding that line the freezing issue was gone.
I'm about to try this, but thank you in advance. I'm wildly curious how you even went about knowing which IP was mucking up and needed redirected? I've already got like 6 IPs i added to my host file from a previous fix suggestion from a decade ago or so. /o\ Slightly frustrated that I was doing the right thing, I just had the wrong IP.
Well, you solved my issue so thanks. Never try to understand what Ubi is doing. You'll drive yourself crazy. Not for nothing but the new Beta for Ubi Play is a little wonky and there's talk that the original AC doesn't play well with their distribution platform at all. I mean, it was originally released on Steam and Play wasn't even around then.
Then I played the game with this tool running and when it froze, I captured all the traffic in a file, then continued playing and when it froze again, I captured all the trafic in another file. I did this a couple of times and then started analyzing the files looking for TCP packets with errors or something weird. Well, I found that every time the game froze my computer was sending a TCP retransmission packet (may be an indication of a connection issue), to 203.132.26.155. I simply googled that IP and the first result mentioned Ubisoft, so I knew that was their server.
Woah, that's some serious dedication! I've tried the fix, and after removing the #'s that I'd put at the front, it's started working, as best I can tell. I'm really thankful you found this. ♥
Open Notepad as Administrator, and then open c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
Just add that IP as a new line
Bumping this again so that maybe some other users might actually decide to read it and the other discussions..
