Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed 1 not loading/launching
Sooo I've gone through almost every post up here about AC 1 not working or loading. I've done pretty much everything under a google search....I can try to list a few of them here...
-Uninstalled Reinstalled
-installed on a secondary SSD (D drive)
-installed on my main C drive
-Changed name of DX9/10
-Installed Uplay for luls
-Github had a "work around" with python that didn't work
-Changed the launch files to compatibility mode for every single version
-Tried launching all .exe's as Administrator
-Restarted computer 18032098342059 times
-Bought the game on Ubisofts website and on tried launching the game on the Uplay launcher and that ALSO DIDN'T WORK.....
-Installed Nvidia Drivers, DX drivers, and Microsoft Visual C++ updated drivers

AAANNND I think that's it.....

Been at this about 4 hours now....I'm about to give up....
intel i7 9700k
Nvidia 1080ti

Please...someone end my suffering here....I just want to relive this game and play it on my PC....

This is what worked for me if you have a Ryzen processor:

"
1) Install latest Ryzen Master
2) Run the Ryzen Master tool
3) Select Game Mode profile and click Apply
It will ask to restart the PC, do that.
4) When the PC boots back up, click OK to launch the Ryzen Master
5) Run the game

Just make sure that you have disabled Compatibility modes for the exes otherwise the game will crash after first 2-3 it has launched.
"
Thankyou this worked for me.
on my threadripper 3990x, going from 64 cores down to 16 cores (1/4th of the corecount) and im now finally able to run the game.

this is also the solution for a different game i had the same problem with which was Dawn of war 2,

Thanks for sharing that this suggest has worked for you TheProScout!

Glad to see you're up and running!

If there's ever anything we can help with please let us know!

I had the same problem today. Whenever I start a new campaign, its just stuck in the animus loading screen - the sound, animation running - basically the game is still running but its just stuck with that white smoke with random letters and numbers. Couldn't play the game.

I then remembered that my past AC games always had the same problem of either not loading or launching - and the solution is always to get the game files installed to my SSD - which is also my main drive.

Tried it and its now running without issues.

Hey Setton,

Sorry to hear that initially you had trouble launching the game game.

Thank you for sharing what helped you get up and running, we would always advise where possible to install the game on your main drive as you now have.

If ever we can help in the future just let us know as we are happy to help.

I'm late as can be on this one, but I ran into these exact two issues on Windows 10 today. Reading through this thread, and some others, I found the following solutions to work for me:

1. Game is not launching from Steam, process does not show in task manager.
Reason: CPU has too many cores.
Solution: Set the executable to run in Windows 98 / Windows ME compatibility mode.

2. Game crashes to desktop during Ubisoft intro.
Reason: Game tries to connect to no longer existing Ubisoft servers.
Solution: Remove network cable from your router for the duration of your game session.

Rumor has it that blocking the Dx 10 executable in Windows Defender is supposed to have the same effect. For me, however, all I got was an error message ("Unable to start the game").
The only (obvious) downside with this method is that Steam does not record playtime, but who cares anyway.

Hope this helps folks who run into the same issues.
Hello. I know I'm a little late to this discussion, but I developed my own solution using powershell. It may be a bit convoluted, but it seems to work with all games that freak out when too many processing cores are present.
Check out my tutorial video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBglq_jVy3c

In short, I just made a two line script that starts the process with one thread, which is all the game needs given its age and the amazing single thread power of newer chips.
I'm running a 3950X, so by default, the game has a heart attack and just immediately crashes.

Hope this helps!

This is not working and neither is anything in this thread. Can anyone help with this?

Hey there,

I'm sorry that all the workarounds provided in this thread did not help you solve the issue.

Please consider that the game was released in 2007 so it may experience some issues running on modern hardware and OS.

Could you please try the troubleshooting steps provided here[www.ubisoft.com] and let us know if the issue persists?

Should you need additional support, please consider opening a support ticket[www.ubisoft.com], providing both DXDiag and MSInfo32 files. You can find a guide on how to generate these files here[www.ubisoft.com]

Thank you very much.

btw not sure this will help but to get it to run well on windows 11, I had to reduce refresh rate from my normal 240 hz to 60 hz, otherwise I get a black screen. I'm on 1920x1080 resolution. Cheers.

Hey there Kitty Pryde!

Thanks so much for sharing that workaround for folks, that's great to hear that helped you launch the game on your system!

If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know.

I'm getting this problem too (bought the game on a nostalgia trip). On W11 (Intel CPU) and have tried all the applicable tricks above - none of them work for me.

Edit: removed ethernet and it now works so it is the "phone home" issue. Annoyingly when I block the three executables with "assassins creed" in their name in my firewall (Bitdefender) it does not work, but that is on me I guess.
