I wonder why the GOG version has cloud saves and the Steam version doesn't. Ubisoft are totally bizarre neglecting their older titles in regards to things like this.
I wonder if it's possible to transfer the save game between the Steam and GOG versions.
1. Install Both Clients
Use the same Windows user account to install Assassin’s Creed Director’s Cut on Steam and GOG Galaxy.
2. Enable GOG Cloud Saves
In GOG Galaxy → Settings → Game Features, tick Enable Cloud Saves (or override per‑game).
3. Play on Steam
Launch and play via Steam; your progress writes to %APPDATA%\Ubisoft\Assassin’s Creed\Saved Games.
4. Close and Launch GOG
Start the GOG Assassins creed directors cut version through Galaxy (not the .exe directly); Galaxy will detect and upload any new or changed save files from that same folder.
5. Verify in GOG Cloud
In GOG Galaxy or on GOG.com, open your Cloud Saves dashboard to confirm your Director’s Cut files have synced.
6. Watch the 200 MB Cap (This is just in case)
Keep your total save data under 200 MB or back up the %APPDATA%\Ubisoft\Assassin’s Creed\Saved Games folder manually to avoid sync failures.
