Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed

Which gawdamned button is "Button 1?" [Solved]
The manual is completely USELESS; it doesn't say which keyboard control is "Button [whatever]."

So, I have to quit and then when I find out which gawdamned button is Button 1, I have to wait FOREVER to get past the cutscenes you can't skip. Again.

And the Options screen is worse; it actually has "Button 1" and "Button 0" as mapped controls like I am supposed to KNOW WTF they are.

…and "Quit" doesn't quit! The only way to actually leave the game is to force a crash!

…and for dev's info, "Button 0" routinely stands for Left Mouse Click, and "Button 1" stands for Right Mouse Click, but those controls are default-mapped for different purposes in this game.

It would be pretty stupid on dev's part if I have to get refund because they don't know JACK about PC gaming: That's it, turn me off to the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. THAT'LL make me spend more money on it, right?

I don't think so.

Right mouse click was working as button 1 for me. At least with the default setup.

When it says Button 1, it means Mouse Button 1.

Button 0: Left Click
Button 1: Right Click
Button 2: Middle mouse button
Button 3+: Extra buttons on your mouse if you have them

Thank you—I thought that was the case, but when I right-clicked (which is "Button 1"), my HUD did not change. The AI says, "Press Button 1 and watch the HUD change," but when I do, nothing happens.

Maybe it's just a temporary glitch that won't be present the next time I attempt that oh-so-annoying training.

Again, thanks.

As a big AC player, protip, rebind it to shift. Otherwise you'll be sprinting with right mouse button and no one like that. :P

My right mouse button is the "open hand" "unarmed hand" etc, whatever.

(moue of distatste) Sounds like the game was designed initially for consoles; I see what you mean about sprinting with a mouse button.

I appreciate your help.

When I think about it I don't think sprint is ever shift by default until like... Black Flag or Unity lol RIP. Anyway, if you come across any other questions as well, about lore, gameplay, controls, anything AC really. Feel free to add me and ask away.

Actually, plenty of games bind the sprint function to the shift key. (puzzled frown) As a matter of fact, I can't actually think of one I own where that is indeed not the case, not by name. I do have a couple, though (whose names I can't recall), where the default movement for the player character IS sprinting, and Shift is the modifier that forces the player to walk. Wait—One of those games is [publisher EA Games and developer IO Interactive] Freedom Fighter¹.

See, I bought AC about seventy million years ago, and haven't played it since the Chixiclub meteor hit, so it's not really fresh in my memory. I just picked up the Steam version a little while ago, and I'll pick up other Creed titles later, I'm sure.

¹Franchise history note: Freedom Fighter 2 was first postponed and then dropped entirely so that IOI could focus on developing the fourth Hitman title, Blood Money.
