I Am Jesus Christ: Prologue

I Am Jesus Christ: Prologue

Review on the Prologue version of the game...
First before we begin, I would like to thank the Devs for stepping up into a "genre" that is niche at best, and trash talked at worst. Mad props to have the guts you do to produce this title, and put on Steam of all things. Next, I would like to state that I have a list of pros, and cons to the title, but they in no way, shape, or form should be taken as a deciding factor on trying the title out for yourself. Without further ado, here are the pros, and cons as far as I am concerned.

Graphics: 7.5/10
The graphics are not bad, the colors are vibrant in many areas of the game. The VFX used when a quote pops on are gorgeously handled and not immersion breaking, as you can just walk right by the VFX when they happen (good plan). The terrain looks decent enough, although some better dust kick up effects would probably work better, as when Jesus was walking into the desert, and also up to Simon at the dock the dust looked kind of like Play-Doh.

Pros: Good detail, Good contrasting colors, Very little clipping.
Cons: No talking animations, Many characters looked the same (copy/paste)

Sound: 6/10
The music is absolutely gorgeous, hands down a beautiful playlist...When it is not trying make my eardrums bleed due to amplification issues with the environment. The music is beautiful though. The voice acting (while I understand was done by a small team of individuals) could be a LOT better. There were also times where talking with someone would make them sound very far away, or sometimes in an area where there was a lot of echo feedback (and yes, I tested my headset, and my main speakers both had the same issue).

Pros: Gorgeous music, Excellent environmental sounds.
Cons: Over amplified music at times, characters voice volume would change erratically.

Gameplay: 2/10
Now let me be clear, I understand the game is about learning who Jesus Christ was when he lived his days on Earth. However, the gameplay in this title needs a LOT of work. I also understand that it is a beta title, and is still being worked on. So allow me to share what I think should be looked at. When it tells you to hold the LMB to do something, then to hold the right mouse button (water to wine for instance) all I had to do was hold the LMB and everything worked on it's own. When curing the son of the soldier, instead of walking around inside the blood vein (which honestly baffled me) why not have him Swim since the vein is not some dry cave area. Also when told to hold a mouse button down, all you have to do is click the mouse button, and it works just the same. Finally, give better instruction on the mouse controls, and in game controls.

Pros: Fun to run around the villages, the sprint being unlimited is nice as well.
Cons: Desert area prayer circles are too far apart (even with sprint) Not sure what the pressure plate has to do with Jesus/God or anything for that matter. Not to mention the section where you telepathically throw blocks at lights to unlock the healing ability?!? Can we possibly make that make more sense in the final release?

Total Score: 5.1/10

The game in itself is not bad at all. Coming from a small team, that is definitely taking a bold chance to produce a title solely based on a Christian belief system is honestly noteworthy, and respectable. I honestly wish all belief systems would do this, just so others can learn about them in fun, more relatable ways. This game is good (aside from control issues), the story is good (aside from sound issues) I would recommend playing it just for the knowledge that the quotes have in the very least. This is a beta title so of course there is a lot more work to do on it, and hopefully when it is finished the issues above will be resolved. I thank the devs for their hard work on this title, and wish them all the best in their endeavors.

Thanks for reading my review ^_^
