Forester's Hut Not Planting?
Hi.

This is my first run through, so perhaps I'm doing something wrong. But I'm in my second year and I have a forester's hut that I put in at the beginning of the first year, with 4 people in it. It was in a really good spot, full of trees, but it's almost completely cleared the area. It looks like it's mostly just chopping them down and planting very few new trees. I DO have it set to both falling AND planting - the information clearly says "Falling is enabled" and "Planting is enabled". Is this building unbalanced? It appears to be. I'm having to put in an additional forester so that I can also have planting happening.

Is there something I can do to get the one hut to plant as well as chop? I don't want to have to keep micro-managing it.

i've had to occasionally remove the fell trees aspect on the building, never seems to perfectly balance to me. In my latest playthrough's i've just skipped it entirely and tried to make a beeline for the forest farm at the end of agrictulture (espcially since forest farm only needs clay, and you can get clay early as long as your by water)

Yeah, I saw that option later in the tree. Might be the best course of action. Thank you! :-) Otherwise, I quite like this game. It's very relaxing to play and watch.

I see it s not only my problem, though mine was also not cutting down the trees even if I had both Fell and Plant trees. Also I had a problem with 1 hut, that it cut down the trees but left the timber on the ground, therefore I could not make people to pick it up, not did it counted to my overall supplies, I even built an open warehouse nearby that hut, but it did not help. I even tried to prioritize the area, nothing helped, there are piles of wood just lying on the ground which cannot be picked. And I really need the wood, already build 4. hut but still do not have enough wood, seems strange to me. Did not have that problem before.

I use two forestry hits side by side. One set to plant only and one to harvest only. The planters need to be more workers than the harvested, 2 planters per 1 harvester works for me.

I have 3 foresters with a population of 200 and I don't know what to do with the timber, 4000 in stock. my foresters only look to have a few mature trees in the coverage area but production still goes on. ???

Yep. Same, except I have 3 planters and 2 cutters as my magic number.

Some questions:

1. How many (or % of citizens < 10%) laborers do you have?
2. For hubs: how many tents / houses at the issue location?

Source of many issues in the Early game.

In early game your solution is to get pops to clear trees where you intend to build.
As I posted above in mid game you will not have any problem with wood.
At 450 population with still 3 foresters set to plant and cut, I have a stock 5900 wood.
It is only the first couple of years which are somewhat difficult.

I have no problem with the amount of timber gathered, except that my forester circle become almost totally bare if I have the one forester building on cut and plant. They just don't plant often. They should be planting one tree for every tree they cut. They definitely don't! I start off with a forestry area that has lots of trees, have the forester set to cut AND plant from the outset, and end up with a bare circle. That's not balanced. They are only planting perhaps 1 tree for every 2 they fell, judging by the evidence that several of us have commented that we need a separate hut for planting, and more planters than cutters as well. I'm wondering if the game is set that every time a worker comes on shift they start with always cutting a tree first, then planting, then cutting. If that's the case, then that would account for less trees planted over time, such as what we are experiencing. It might not be, but I'm thinking that perhaps it's a possibility. I need to watch multiple foresters to see if that's what's happening. If it is, they need to changing it so that they plant first half the time.

My experience with forester huts is that they need some time to balance things out. At first the cut every mature tree down and leave an almost bare field, then it needs some time to regrow. But after that its a stable output and never goes to a bare field again.

2 Forester Huts is an interesting concept, i might try that in my next game.

Yep, same here. It's driving me crazy. I get it. Early access. But c'mon. As a banished clone, this is the least you should get right.

IIRC, Banished also had this exact problem when it first released, and it was fixed later on update...
