Here is how I done it:
- I've installed the Win XP mode for Win 8
- After installation, I went to my steam folder and started rayman (note: you must login to steam as well with your win XP)
- it started and I've saved my first savegame (It really was slow, so you can't play it in this mode)
- But now the strange thing happended: After I restarted the game on Win 8, it worked on the real windows as well.
baaaaaa babababa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :D
It failed to launch from e: and moving to c: helped. (win 7, dot know if it helps on win8)
I thought i wasted my money for a moment... not that big investment, but still... i expected better service from steam and ubi... they should at least inform game might not work on my pc...
Hmmmm, Steam place games at Program Files/Steam and that's all. I got a message about video card drivers (again) and pressed "yes" (launch anyway). Game launches. I have Win 8.1 with AMD Radeon and up-to-date driver pack.
About virtual mashine - I didn't managed to connect it to internet yesterday, so it was not the decision of the whole case. But I don't know, maybe the presence of it influences somehow. I used Oracle Virtual box (it's free) and Win XP Mode (free at the official Microsoft site if your OS is legal). Also there is some VM engine at Win 8 itself, but the first tutorial I found was abour Oracle. It was very simple process and useful skill anyway :)
Nice to hear it! :) Strange, that your virtual device could't access the internet. Everything worked fine for me from the beginnning.
But the behavior of this game is really annoying. I couln't start the game, when I installed it on C:. Would be interesting, to find out, what the real problem is for the this bug.
It seems like dealing with the Rabbids themselves already :) Win 8 is not very compatible with... Practically everything. I think thet's the problem, and the reason, why C: method is useful or useless may be caused by some drivers or side programs...
