How do I save?

I don't see any option to do it. Does it happen automatically? If so, how do I know when it's happened. I just entered the cellar.

You're right. I went to main menu and it loaded from when I went into the cellar. I wish there was some kind of indicator when it saves, though.

wait, the game saves in the cellar? then does my game simply refuse to save? because i got in to the mansion in which i encountered a glitch that caused a soft lock, and upon resetting the game i had to start all over from the first puzzle, same thing as the demo and i just thought i hadn't played enough to unlock saving

There is a tiny animated icon that appears when entering each room on the top right. At 4k it's super tiny, probably a little bigger at lower resolutions, but super easy to miss.
