Cant overwrite save files anymore, very strange issue
I can distinctly remember saving for example "missionName 001" them playing some more and after a while being able to click "save", input the same file name, and thus overwrite my save file.
The option to do so seem to now be gone. When doing the same procedure nothing unexpected happens but when loading the file I overwrote its still in its original state.
The strange thing is I get the same problem in multiple computers meaning its somehow linked to the steam version of the game or at least my account somehow ?
Can anyone confirm they have the same issue and if you have any idea why ?

This is definitely not the way the game is supposed to behave : I also own the Steam edition of SF2 and the battlefront.com edition of FI and neither of those do the same thing. CMBS used to work and it somehow randomly decided someday to stop working. Very confusing stuff...

I've got the same problem, but with Red Thunder (obviously not the Steam version). It started immediately after installation.

I have SF2 (Steam), BS (Steam) and FI (BF) on the same computer and they work correctly.

From what I've gathered, when you save, the game creates a temporary file in the directory:
C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Red Thunder
with a name like "tempfile l.tmp". Then, the game should move that temporary file to:
C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Red Thunder\Game Files\Saved Games
renaming it and overwriting the original file if necessary.

However, in my case it doesn't do the last step and just leaves the temp file without overwriting the original.

The good news is that you can recover your failed saves - if you find those temporary files, you can copy them manually to the proper save directory and rename them. However, I don't know how to permanently fix it.

Steam version uses different directory (for example: <steam dir>\steamapps\common\Combat Mission Shock Force 2\Game Files\Saved Games), I don't know where it puts those temp files.
