Co-op FAQ
With the latest co-op update, many of you have been asking how certain features work, especially around Shared and Non-Shared Progression.

This FAQ brings together the most common questions to help you and your friends.

Connection

Are there specific steps we need to follow to successfully connect to each other?
Make sure both players selected the same co-op mode, are using the same unique password, and are at a similar progression level if using Shared Progression. You can also check if ping restrictions are blocking the connection.

Who can join the Shared Progression Co-op?
Players must have the same New Game (NG) level (e.g. both in NG or NG+1) and a similar number of main bosses defeated (within a margin of one boss).

Is crossplay supported?
Yes, crossplay is supported via password matchmaking in most multiplayer modes (Beckon Lampbearer, Join Session, Slaughter Lampbearer).

Co-op Progress

What happens if one player leaves a co-op session?
If either player leaves the session, what happens next depends on who exits and the type of co-op being used:

  • If the guest leaves:
The host can continue playing uninterrupted in their world.

  • If the host leaves:
The session ends for both players. Everyone returns to their own world at the last Vestige where they rested or warped.

Shared Progression Co-op:
Story progress remains aligned as long as the required conditions are met.

Non-Shared Progression Co-op:
Story progress does not carry over. The guest keeps experience and non-quest items only.

Friend’s Pass:
Progress saving may be limited depending on the session type.

Can continuing to play separately affect our ability to stay in shared progression?
Yes. Both players should stay at a similar point in the game. If one player progresses further, especially by defeating main bosses, progression may no longer match.

What happens if my progress differs from the host’s?
The guest’s progress (areas, quest items, side quests) is overridden to match the host’s. Your original solo save remains safe and can be loaded from the Load Game menu.

How do I return to my original progress after the online session?
Go to the main menu and select Load Game. You will see two saves for your character: your original solo save and the Shared Progression save (labeled with the host’s name). Select your original solo save to continue.

What are the differences between Limited and Full Privileges for the Guest?

In Shared Progression, the guest always has Full Privileges. In Non-Shared Progression, you can choose between Limited and Full Privileges.

Full Privileges

Guest players can:
  • Skip cutscenes
  • Rest and warp between Vestiges
  • Begin Boss battles
  • Plant Vestige seeds
  • Upgrade equipment (Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
  • Socket upgrade items
  • Use Chrysalis Rebirth
  • Interact with vendors

Guest players cannot:
  • Cleanse Beacons
  • Enter Umbral without the host
  • Interact with Shrines or Offer Remembrance
  • Use the Mirror in Skyrest
  • Leave Umbral via Effigy
  • Initiate Crucible or Echoes of Battle
  • Avenge Lampbearers

Limited Privileges

Guest players can:
  • Rest at Vestiges
  • Upgrade equipment (Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
  • Socket upgrade items
  • Use Chrysalis Rebirth
  • Interact with vendors

Guest players cannot:
  • Skip cutscenes
  • Warp between Vestiges
  • Begin Boss battles
  • Plant Vestige seeds
  • Cleanse Beacons
  • Interact with Shrines or Offer Remembrance
  • Use the Mirror in Skyrest
  • Leave Umbral via Effigy
  • Initiate Crucible or Echoes of Battle
  • Avenge Lampbearers

Gameplay

Do both players get the same loot and rewards, or does it depend on who picks them up first?
It depends on the type of item and the co-op mode.

Shared Progression Co-op:
The following items are obtained by both players if one player picks them up:
  • Quest items (e.g. Cracked Rune Tablet)
  • Key items (e.g. Saintly Quintessence)
  • Boss rewards (e.g. Remembrance)
  • Items from treasure chests

Other items must be picked up individually by each player.

Non-Shared Progression Co-op:
Some rewards are tied to the host’s progression.
Other items must be picked up individually by each player.

What happens to loot if a player dies before picking it up?
Loot is not lost. It remains in the world and can be collected after reviving.

Why does the respawn point change depending on who places a Vestige Seed?
Respawn location is shared. Players will respawn at the most recently placed Vestige, regardless of who placed it.

Why do some co-op interactions not work for the guest?
This depends on the co-op mode. Shared Progression allows most interactions. Non-Shared Progression restricts some actions.

Why can only the host use Remembrances?
Guests should also be able to use Remembrances in Shared Progression Co-op.

Friend’s Pass

What is the Free Friend’s Pass?
It allows players who do not own Lords of the Fallen to join a friend who owns the full game for the entire adventure in co-op. It also grants access to the character creator and tutorial area.

What happens if the Free Friend’s Pass player leaves a game?
Progress may not be saved depending on the session type. If they leave to the main menu, progress is not saved.

How far through the game can I play using the Free Friend’s Pass?
You can experience the entire game in co-op by joining a host who owns the full game.

When are you going to remove the nerfs for invaders?
Like allowing us to use consumables, removing the damage nerf too when invading?
Also remove the option to turn off invasions.
Shared Progression still isn't working for co-op?
same settings in multiplayer 'settings' and same settings in host/join from vestige but no matter how many times we try connect or change who is hosting it never works?
Idk but it cleary doesnt seem to work crossplay. I wanted to play on my PC with a friend that has a PS5, we made the exact same password and he hosted, so i need join. But its constantly loading, i just cant join. We have both the same new game, and i wanted to play with „no-shared progression“ Mode.
This last update has corrupted my save. A friend and I have played through the entire game together, we are at Bramis castle and have been able to join each other through invites on steam with no issues. With this last update if he is hosting using a password i can join him no issue, but only through steam and the games matchmaking never seems to connect us. If i host he cannot join me or am i able to invite. When i switched to another character (save) he can i can host and he can join me just fine. It seems to have affected this one characters save and broken something that prevents me from hosting.

PLEASE, help? There is nothing i can find for tech support or others with this issue?

This has been a non shared progression playthrough and we confirmed i can join him when he hosts either way and no option for him to join me when i host either way.

Does this mean friend pass guest can buy boss items?
