Wither Damage Focus Grand weapons.
I have several builds now 7 play thrus.

My last one which I completed, 6th play thru. Is a Umbral heavy armor and Grand hammer build. I think in terms of OPness, Pretty much all three, Radiance, Inferno and Umbral are equally strong, only difference is, Umbral offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to Spell options as long as you have the rings that allows you to cast Inferno and Radiance spells.

But Umbral focus weapons mostly do Wither damage and some do too much wither damage. Wither damage in many occasions works well but in some situations where you really want to "cash in the damage". It kinda suck. Its like delayed gratification, only problem is, if you don't get that delayed gratification. You are dead. Yes kicking is fast but if you kick half a second late in a tight fight. GG bro.

This could be a grand hammer problem because I do have another character with Umbral build using dual putrid sword. It did great. So probably Umbral melee damage with slow weapons can be a pain to use in tight situations.

The plus with high Wither damage per hit are charged heavy attacks and it's what I'd focus on. Hell, even strap on Umbral Weapon for emphasis on this, since if the enemy is fully withered and your last attack was a fully charged heavy attack, you get to do an Umbral Finisher without having to Soul Flay (however, it doesn't increase Rune drop rates to my understanding).

That's going to be the focus for such a build. Slot in Loash and go ham.

umbral finishers do increase the drop rate of runes, my current build is a wither one and iv been doing umbral finishers on the trash mobs in upper calrath for a while now and its almost a 100% drop of a Halsan rune

been using rosamund's sword with umbral weapon spell with either a stagger rune or more dmg on charge attacks, either one works about the same in terms of performance for getting umbral finishers. For the Ruiners im using the eye that grants +25% more soul damage to easily farm them for their rune drop

I havnt tested the with wither grandhammer yet since i dont have enough upgrade mats yet but i did play around a bit with the boss weapon grandsword from the guy at the bottom of the mines on my last character and used it pretty much through the whole game. It dosnt have any stat scaling for wither since its 30/30 agi/str but has innate wither damage and was viable the whole game and also has frostbite

most spells you can use with umbral also do flat dmg, you can get the hit from range and activate the wither bar that way.
I think 80% wither damage with the hammer you get at the Bridge with the Rohgar gaint boss is strong. I did a mostly wither Umbral melee built with it. It good against solo target but getting swarmed. It is one terrible weapon to use.
