PSA TO ANYONE PLAYING THIS GAME. BACK UP YOUR SAVE FILES MANUALLY. i lost my save file of over 20 hours when the game hard crashed my entire pc and corrupted my save file. i was forced to restart after just finishing calrath... i was super sad and pissed off. please hexworks if you are reading this, please implement an auto save backup that keeps a file of your most recent 2 or 3 saves so that if this happens to people (which it is, ive seen many posts about people losing their save files) they can just replace the corrupted save file with a recent backup. in the meantime, everyone make sure to manualy back up your files, you never know when this buggy mess of a game (my GOTY personally) will eat your save file...

I have developed a habit where I always backup the save files every time I finish or close the game, lol!
I mean every single game I play now, lol!

You'd think after a decade people would have been doing this long ago. Heck its just good advice in general tbh, auto back up your save game locations (documents/appdata roaming folders etc) often.

most people myself included dont even know this can happen until it happens to them.. youd think games would have progressed to a point where we dont have to manually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ backup the save file incase the game bricks your entire pc and corrupts it. dont be a jerk.

yea, i never lost a save in that game, but after it happened to me in this one, i read so many elden ring horror stories, however it seems there is a way to actually restore the file using hex editor in elden ring, unlike in lotf where you are just screwed

sorry to hear that my dude, i know your pain. what hurts even more is the devs absolute silence on the matter, there are so many people who have had this happen to them and the devs havent even acknowledged that its an issue... they could at the very least put out a psa telling people to backup their files or something...

i would, but i like to use the online features of these games, im a big invader so i cant really use mods unfortunately.. ill just back them up manually, its not a difficult process or anything, just annoying and stupid that the devs dont have something like that already implemented in the games files.

This is good advice.

I always make manual backups of games I spend a lot of time on. I very rarely have to use them, but I like having the backups. Cloud saves alone are not a safe guard against corrupted saves.

I use syncthing to move my saves over to my phone. You can also keep versioning enable so even autosave wont mess up your save. Plenty of guides on youtube on how to set it up and its widely use as a way to have cloud saves for games that dont support it.
