The complication arises because of Damarose. You need to give her the first seedpod to progress Umbral, but if you cleanse a single beacon, she as an NPC will be gone and instead become a boss fight in the final area, but you can't access that area with cleansing all or none of the beacons. And the process of accessing that area will lock you into an ending that isn't Umbral (apparently, as far as anyone has found). BUT after you defeat BOSS Damarose, you can find her again at the shrine of Adyr and use the seedpod on her to progress Umbral, but the game just won't progress Umbral past that point. It won't give you the item you need for the next part
I'm a bit confused at what you're saying.
So if you use the speedpod on her after her bossfight, you get...what, exactly? Just nothing?
My issue is that even after doing that, the game isn't giving me the next seedpod for some reason. Which has me a bit stumped.
That's because how you destroy the rocks to open the gate to get into the castle you are locked into one of the 3 endings.
You have to use the WITHERED RUNE OF ARDYN to destroy the rocks so you can open the gate in order to get the Umbral Ending. You can only get that specific rune if you don't cleanse any beacons and work towards the Umbral ending.
The Radiant and Infernal endings both use the RUNE OF ARDYN to destroy the rocks in front of the gate.
Actually, I'm not the only one with a seedpod issue. Others who have followed the directions you gave have also reported not getting seedpods or the ability to place the parasites along the way. I'm guessing the entire sequence is bugged and in need of fixing.
considering you have to do things out of normal sequence to get it and how easy it is to mess up it's likely people are doing something wrong.
Not saying there aren't bugs, but people are stupid.
This game has very very very bad and testy quest design where you can screw up most of them very early into the game. Like your primary merchant can actually just die early into the game if you take the belldoor path in the Bellroom at Pilgrim's Perch on up to the Manse and then the Abbey instead of going down to Congregator and Hushed Saint. Because his questline scripts him to go to those locations when you do, and then you lose him forever. So go run the Abbey too soon just because that's the area you got to that early on? RIP for the rest of your run. Hope you didn't need anything he sells. Another NPC's questline will lock you out of another merchant because you choose to move into the next room after a boss instead of backtracking from that boss to an out of the way area far from any vestiges. Tortured Prisoner's involves chasing her all around the map and some very obtuse objects you need. Kukijira apparently needs you to summon her for like every boss she's a summon for (according to those who tried her questline. If true, I hope you didn't first try any of those bosses if you wanted to do hers). The only one that's remotely straightforward is Dunmire's, Gerlinde's, and Andreas' since they mostly tells you what you need to do for them. The rest? Your chances of actually doing them all to completion without a guide telling you + timing when you do them so as not to make the game harder on yourself is slim
I can confirm based on my first playthru, cleansing one beacon will NOT lock you out of Umbral ending but you have to do it before entering Bramis Castle. Unfortunately I do not remember exactly when I did it but I think it was after beating The Iron Wayfarer but it could have been after beating the lightreeper. I thought I read somewhere that cleansing a beacon at this point was recommended to make sure you don’t get locked into the inferno ending. To be safe I probably wouldn’t do it before obtaining the withered rune of adyr.
