Character Nerfed Into Dirt when Playing Co-op

So me and my buddy were playing this co-op and helping each other back and forth through our campaigns. I ended up getting a little higher level than him, and now when I go to his world and rest...I suddenly only do 8 damage to enemies per hit, and my magic does little to no damage as well. The only way I can even kill anything is if my status effects proc on an enemy...it's made playing with him impossible. It seems to only happen after we visit a vestige. So I have to leave, and rejoin when we want to rest.
And at the same time, it always spawns me into multiplayer(co-op or pvp) with like half my health bar, and a third mana...so I have to constantly waste my items to play multiplayer since I can't rest. Anyone else experience this, or just me?

There is a know bug in the game that nerf the coop player's damage to virtually nil. The only way to fix it is to drop your weapon then have host pick it up then drop it again.

Does it affect your spell damage too?
