You soulflay the enemy and when it's health runs out while hitting the soul you do the finisher.

yeah after testing it seems to have a high item drop rate too
so you deplete their health using soul flay and they automatically get staggered and it also seems to guarantee a rune drop

You can buy a pair of daggers in the hub area that do wither damage which makes things easier if you want to do an Umbral Finisher.

This isn't working for me. How do you DO the finisher? I wither the health completely but when I come over to attack and attack nothing happens - they just normally die. No drops or achievement or anything. What do I press?

you bring their health extremely low then hold L2/left bumper (idk keyboard) and press R2/right bumper then you'll drag their soul out momentarily to attack it, then you'll see the mob kneel run up to him and press R1/right trigger
