How to deal with Shrouded Remnants?
I just ran into these guys, there are 2 of them on an umbral skeletal bridge that's right outside Skyrest. They basically kill me in one or two hits.

What's the trick here?

Think that's just the queue to hoof it and get out of there. There's a thing that will take you out to the real world.

They are pretty tricky. You would probably trying to grab the item on the bridge right? You can grab it and run before they attack.
Anyway the best thing to do is to try and roll behind them when they attack, or wait for them to pop out of the ground and attack them when they miss you. You can also parry them fairly easily because they aren't that hard to stun.

Beyond them is a ladder with one of those weird moth things (that is also too strong to fight) but there was an item there and I felt like that was the direction I had to go to continue too. I did run..but feeling like this was the way I was supposed to go.

Are you saying you should not fight those guys, or just not yet?

It's not the one that appears after the timer is full because the timer is empty.

Correct, I got the item and there is another item past it up a ladder but I wasn't sure if there was some progression route here. If there is not I will just come back when I am more leveled, since I did get the items already. Now I just have to figure out where the hell I am supposed to go because as far as I can tell I have been everywhere lol.

Cue. A queue is an ordered line. But yes, it's not worth trying to fight these things, you just do what you can to evade and exist Umbral.

Alrighty, I thought I had to go that way to go forward toward the first beacon thing but maybe not?

just run. They are hard to deal with even with upgraded weapons.

There are two directions, one is remaining on the far side of the bridge (the side you dropped down on). That's a dead end, where there's an Umbral ladder.

The other side of the spinal bridge, there is a totem to exit Umbral to the left, and to the right leads up to a door you can open to re-enter Skyrest. The entire section doesn't really lead anywhere, if you want to make progress, go back to the giant bell shrine and climb the wooden ladders inside to the left.

Ladders to the left, that lead to a boss that I killed. Maybe I missed something over there I will go look again. The maps are a bit confusing especially with all the locked doors and crap.

We're talking directly under the skybridge that's underneath skyrest, right? Where you saw the echo of some lady committing a sacrifice to Adyr on that skybridge? There's no bosses around there. Unless you're talking about Pieta for some reason which was way up on top of Skyrest.

Yeah I found my way out, I forgot I had turned around when I got to this go forward area to go back and look for missing items and level up and such.

I am further long now but the further I get the more frustrated I get with this game - lol.

I palyed with a shield and I cant beat them when i run into them for the first time. I have tried several times with the vary of the weapons i have this early but no.
But when I power stance with 2 maces it was easy.

Lesson that would save you a lot of headache for the rest of the game: you can and should run past powerful enemies if fighting them is too risky or too hard.

I can think of only one instance where you have to kill an enemy to get a critical item. Meaning, run in, grab the goodies and gtfo. Took me too long to figure out that trying to fight everything is not reciprocated all that well. Though be aware that many enemies will chase you for a looooooooooooooooong time.

I tried this last night a few times and all it did was get me surrounded by tons of enemies. Many areas have overloaded elite mobs mixed with regular mobs. It’s really not that enjoyable lol

As you said enemies chase you forever which is no good if you’re just going to hit another big group of mobs.

I picked up the key from the bridge, then kited them to the door, went through the door back to Skyrest where they stop following you. Then I used holy weapon spell and beat them to death at the zone line where I could safely retreat between attacks.

As Atty above suggested, you can lure them back to near the Skyrest exit and they will leash there. These phantoms drop upgrade nuggets early on and the short swords that they can drop are pretty good for a dual wield agility build. They are quite weak to parrys as 2 should grant you a grevious strike opening.
