Magic seems weak?
I was hoping this game would be like Elden Ring where magic is good, definitely good enough for you to pretty much rely on it most of the time, although you do run out of mana. In this game it seems that magic is just designed to be weak. No matter which magic you use it seems that a weapon will ALWAYS do more dmg.

So if magic is using a limited resource, but still does less dmg than a magic user just swinging a weapon... then what's the point of it? I've also noticed that ranged enemies have a much higher fire rate than your own character.

Why are people necroing this thread D: this thread was made at the beginning of my playtime, obviously my perspective has changed the more I play.

We just want you to admit how poor your assessment was and that you are embarrassed now lol

Magic is quite op in some scenarios, I'm not a mage or anything so I can't really give insight but I've been one shot and have seen some really stupid damage that shouldn't exist

Well it's a rough start and I initially started with inferno. I switched to radiance and it's been better. Especially the choice of weapons.

Umbral is really stupid for damage

I haven't touched any of the umbral stuff. I can say a lot of the radiance stuff, weapons and spells really begin to shine as you acquire more accessories that really pushed it further. The lucent beam, blessed reflections, sanctify, auras, cloud one and the orb I guess.

The radiance weapons so long as you aren't building for smite are alright due to the smite runes being really bad but aside from that radiance has made me nigh unkillable in pve

Yup, doesn't even matter if you use them against enemies that are supposed to be resistant towards it, cuts through them anyway.

Ye, been using frostbite and it works wonders with the ring for it, procs on most enemies 2-4 hits and does more damage than smite with added effects on top of it

Magma Surge is available early mid-game, deals ~1k dmg at inferno softcap + aoe dot and one shots all ranged mobs + pvp invaders until end game, including Bramis castle. "Magic is weak", no u.
biggest Problem 90% of the time your Character just stands there and does the "no mana" pose

I had finished the game with pure caster build. It is strong after mid-late game, most boss I finished with one try. However the only problem is that I have to carry a lot of mana recovery stuff.

Some spells are very strong but 3/4 of the total amount of offensive spells are pure trash due to balance issues; too slow animations for standard dmg or high cost for low dmg

I play mainly inferno as always in this genre of games and is good due to at my opinion inferno have the best balance on cost/animation speed/dmg and have great buffs

When i do my run as "radiant" or "umbral" focused in that play style i was noticed both are SLOOOOOW at cast and have poor dmg/cost on tons of spells... getting some utility spells as valuable choices as buffs auras imbue etc and the spear trhow from umbral as dmg spell thats make me feel the other dmg spells from rad and umb feel so bad compared to inferno spells who are most fun and valuable due to better balance in dmg/animation/cost

I think they should buff cost and animation speed from various Radiant/Umbral spells to make it fun to play

Magic starts off weak but becomes extremely op once you get your build going. Inferno builds have to wait a bit to access the juicier spells but once you get them and upgrade your catalyst a bit you'll steamroll the rest of the game.

Big spells to look out for are seismic slam which you can buy from the tortured prisoner after freeing her, cataclysm (your boss killer spell) also from the same tortured prisoner later in her questline, infernal weapon from the hidden adyr alter in Fitzroy's Gorge, magma surge from the Spurned Progeny Rememberance, lava burst from lower calrath among a few others.
