Crimson Rector Percival confusion (possible spoiler inside)

When he summons his "buddy" to attack me (heck that range) thats fine by me but at some point in the fight, kinda random i think, he starts spamming 3 of these guys at once the moment i get close to him to put some dmg in.

Is that actualy normal or is there some crazy magic messing with the game? :)

Its second phase when Percival sword is enchanted with holy. Its one of the attacks that spawn 3 holy clones that hit the spot where they are summoned (melee range).
