What is the point of these maps?

Is anyone able to actually glean useful information from these dumbass things?

Look at maps and then look around your surroundings. The places on your map in journal entry gives you a subtle idea of where you are or where you supposed to be depending on the area you currently in. I am not sure whether you were being sarcastic or genuinely curious, hope it helps.

The information is only really meaningful to me in hindsight. Standard exploring without looking at any references is more than enough to get you from place to place and the map doesn't help. Generally speaking there are only 1 or 2 ways to go at any given time, so you don't need the map's esoteric woodblock illustrations to navigate anywhere.

The world map is a bit more "useful" in that you can more easily see how the world is put together and where you are in the big picture.
