Amount of enemies is kinda overwhelmingly ridiculous
After like the first tutorial level, the number of enemies they throw at you really gets out of hand. Hell, the bosses in this game is literally the easiest part of it. Everything between the bosses is an absolute nightmare...

There's gonna be at least 2-3 mob corpses in the corner hurling fireballs at you, one mage from across the room, and they'll also throw in the occasional elite or aggressive melee unit. They also really love to hide these fireball corpses in the ground, and they'll start throwing ♥♥♥♥ at you from behind when you are trying to engage with the melee elite units or minibosses. At any given time you are always engaging anywhere from 5-10+ enemies at the same time.

but wait, there's more! wait till you need to shift into umbral mode to solve the puzzles tho! Enjoy trying to solve puzzles while 10+ walking corpses lunge their way at you while hidden shades teleport around and some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fairy ♥♥♥♥ continues to summon more walking mobs and throws ♥♥♥♥ at you.

I swear to god, nobody actually play-tested this. Just filling the entire map with enemies and calling it a day basically. They literally cramming in enemies in wherever they can. Literally around every corner is a gankfest with ranged units constantly shooting at you.

Its gotten to the point I feel like there really isn't much of an incentive of trying to slowly clear the map and explore- there is just way too much ♥♥♥♥ in betwee. At least they give you very fast movement speed in this game because you WILL be running through all the entire map past all the enemies.

One could argue maybe if you are playing "co-op" and have 2 other players helping you out this number of enemies might make more sense. However we all know how much of a joke co-op mode is in this game. Reduced rewards and no drops for the summons, what a Joke.

This game from both a technical performance standpoint and a gameplay design aspect was clearly not ready. The actual maps aren't that terrible per sey, just the enemy placements is so ridiculously over the top it is a chore to get through.

What I hate is constantly being shot at by ranged enemies from a mile away. It's just so boring and unfun.

It feels like I'm being interrupted. I'm trying to play a game and every 3 seconds I get sniped by someone who I can't even fight. At least lower their agro range if you're not going to reduce their numbers.

range enemies + mobs piss me off so I started random coop, but hard to coordinate with no voice chat to my knowledge?

oh god this is so true. They looked at all the ganks in DS2 and went "what if it was infinite, and every so often you need to take out your lantern out and suck some blue balls mid-gank, or else the enemy gankfest will constantly regen health or one enemy will be invincible!"

They should have left the mobs gank spank for NG+. There is way to many mobs and makes the exploration experience way too ♥♥♥♥.

OMG not the "muh gank squads" people again.

It's a difficult one. I think it's pretty interesting for your first exploration experience through an area. I haven't felt such dread of going around an area since Tower of Latria back when I was green and naive.

BUT it's absolutely infuriating to re-do areas. The whole point is to discourage running through areas, but all it really achieves is making players stubbornly do this anyway, because clearing out enemies five times over is tedious and kills your heals.

The biggest problem as well is that the aggro range on enemies is ridiculous. They will follow you all over without let up. Unless you climb a ladder, which is funny.

This feels like a full-game version of the SotfS Shrine of Amana.
I hated shrine of amana.

That paired with the confusing layouts is why I'm currently hoping my refund goes through. They have successfully filtered me... with poor level designed, lunge-y combat and infinite range mobs that I sometimes can't locate on an ultrawide lol. I owned all the Bosses and minis I fought though.:steamhappy:

The overwhelming amount of enemies is great. Especially when your in the Umbral. It gives you a real sense of how dangerous the place is, as each minute more and more enemies show up to hunt you down. I love the challenge. It makes you actually have to think about how you enter combat. You can't just rush into a horde of enemies swinging randomly expecting to win.

Sounds like this game isn't for you. The game is meant to have a large amount of enemies after you. Your character is the wielder of the Lamp of Immortality, of course everyone wants you dead, they want that lamp.

every class has a ranged weapon. sounds like your not using them. pick off part of the mob with ranged before you engage.... been doing that the whole game.

Ranged is still a limited resource. and also later on they wont give you the space to be picking them off one by one. Later on not only are there rangers there will also be multiple mobs and one melee elite on your ass. Not to mention lots of fireball throwing corpses just hiding in the ground around every corner.
Its not just the ranged enemies, its just the whole "gankfest" DS2 school of difficulty that makes this both tedious and unfun. Its every map with DS2 Shrine of Amana number of enemies and projectiles.

Seems like you're playing the game with results you don't actually like.
Stop playing like that then you don't have to deal with the mess you made.
If you actually hit/dodge/jump into boxes or look really closely you can see monsters behind stuff trying to ambush you, instead of running around like a headless chicken.
And if you're having trouble in Umbral, in terms you have already shadows chasing you around, then the question is what the F are you staying in Umbral for so long, it literally has an eyemeter the more full it gets, more tougher enemies will spawn, more often, and when it's full, you will be chased down by a reaper who can't be killed (maybe can be, but that health pool for beginning is insane), unlike normal reapers who are in certain ares.

I love how this isn't even exaggeration. I laughed when I reached that umbral platform in Memorial. That swarm was outrageous. Couldn't even lock on to the puzzle key amidst the literal sea of bodies to skip the fight. Lock on in this game is wonky at best, and turning mid-swing is too sensitive, which doesn't make manual aim any better.

I have to agree, some areas are just unnecessarily over tuned, you have 3 elites, a parasite, range, is just too much.

You are missing the point. While I've never personally stayed in Umbra long enough to see the super-reapers, I was more or so talking about just the normal non-umbra mode. Even without umbra there are still a ridiculous amount of enemies. I just said that in umbra mode, this already problematic enemy placements gets even worse.
