No. It's takes place I think around 1,000 years after the first game. Gameplay is way different as well. Story as far as I can tell has little to do with the first one. Basically stands on its own.

Edit: Just be more clear, this isn't a remake. Think giving it the same title and calling it a reboot is what's confusing people. Implies it's a remake or re-visioning and that's not what was actually meant.

This is a bad reboot of the original bad game. I agree with Chacheya1G it's probably even worse.

The game is a reboot of the series. It is made by a completely different studio. It's insanely good, much like Dark Souls 2 and 3 mixed together. It's a great game, lots of fun. The only people who give it a negative review are the people who can't play it because their PC is from 2003 or they hate anything that isn't dark souls.
