"Is Nioh 2 better than LOTF?"

Combat yes, hands down Nioh 2 is better. This combat feels so friggin floaty.

Exploration and level design? LOTF for sure.

Prefer Stranger of Paradise to Nioh 2. Way more interesting enemies and class combos too.

That's done intentionally. The story is actually one of the best in all of the FF series. Its deep meaning, flow, and climax arcs really make it pop but that all comes after you're revealed the illusion the plot (and commercials) initially leads you into.
