I'm testing now the password feature in the multiplayer tab with a friend and so far haven't had a single invasion. I for one prefer the invasion either solo or co-op because I do like the challenge of everyone's cool builds and most of the time it's been free corrupted hands with the 2v1 advantage.
But I noticed the password thing and was curious to test it out and I think people just didn't really see this or wasn't explained by the devs. From trying this method invasions are not forced. You can opt out of it if both users have the same password for their world and one accompanies into their world. We even did a private 1v1 session which was cool. So you wanna play with your friend without getting invaded? There you go. I mean I could be wrong and maybe we're just getting lucky but I've been pvping a lot every day because I'm trying to get the tier 3 armor set from the shrine
Yeah hard to say, invasions aren't necessarily common so it could be that you just haven't encountered one yet? No clue.
Oh I force invaders into my world lolol so every vestige is near a pvp zone where that red thing pops up that identifies you're in an invasion spot, I'm sure you already know but this is for anyone who doesn't know what that red indicator is. I wait a good few seconds or a minute and get invaded. Win or lose then head back to the vestige and select the "slaughter lampbearer" option on and then switch it off (or leave it on if you want to invade someone). This kinda resets the red indicator in your area so when you go back, it pops up again and then another invader pops up. I get hella invasions every day doing this. If it takes a while sometimes I'll exit to the menu and enter and I'm good or turn off multiplayer and turn back on.
It is possible that they legit got the end game gear, I myself was level 16 and somehow made it till depths area, after that I leveled up to 30 and now I am almost at 2nd last or last location.
I am not an invader, not really, nor am I some kind of pro or a veteran, but if a person like me can somehow make it that far, I imagine other people can finish the game more easily and on lower levels.
Having said that, there might be some people who gets item drop from their friends and other such methods, it is unfortunate, but it is not something unheard of in souls and soulslike games.
I guess the idea of the fun is for invaders, not hosts, I suppose, and invasions aren't supposed to follow any rules or be fair. It is like someone broke into your house in the middle of the night, do you think they will bow down and ask you how are you, drink some beer with you, say cheers and take a selfie and then let you pick a weapon and fight with you fair and square?
Ofcourse not, it is a forced entry, and they will do whatever they like while you do what you can to protect yourself, that's about it.
Elden Ring on PC had a peak of about 950 000 players in the start on Steam.
Seamless coop has over a million in unique download.
The numbers now make quite a bit of difference.
This isn't even considering all the funny cheese unique to invader side because of our hilariously skewed stats compared to our hosts.
You can argue all you want about "skill issue", but what do you want, a congrats for beating someone while you've got 10x their resistance and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of extra damage lol?
I absolutely and totally agree with you. I share the same feeling millimeter by millimeter. In fact, I didn't buy the game and I didn't do it for the same reasons. My friends ended up giving it to me for PS5 and that is why I started playing it. That said, I can say that invasions are quite infrequent for now, which makes the experience more tolerable. After Elden Ring, where you have an invasion every 5 minutes, I was very very burned out and I said NEVER AGAIN.
Currently, if I'm doing coop as a host and we receive an invasion, it is as simple as closing the game and reopening it. If they are going to waste my time, the least I can do is give them the same in return. You generally do not receive another invasion again for another 2-4 hours. Which is great.
There is no developer or player who will force me to do PVP again.
The only time an invader should die is the hosts net starts rubberbanding them into the hits, if you've died as an invader in any other interaction you just played bad.
However, this exact issue isn't healthy for the online environment. Winning invasions was always supposed to be an uphill battle, but it just isn't here, we have stone heals, spell heals, a ♥♥♥♥ ton of resistances that make everything but echos irrelevant, and crazy high damage, all on top of a multitude of hilariously easy 1 shot applications.
They even nerfed dervla explosive by making it "cost more ammo" but you can build infinite ammo, it did nothing and it still takes no skill to partake in these invasions you're so defensive about.
