Also used Mangler Axes in the beginning, dualwield can be fun but doesn't seem to be efficient.
Unfortunately, a lot of really fun things are very lategame. You get some fun toys from defeating the Lightreaper. The swords are brutal when they're fully upgraded. The Grinning Axe from Bramis Castle is said to be great, too.
Far as Catalysts go, mostly used Searing Accusation. You'll get it back from the Prisoner after handing her the Spurned Progeny Eye. Decent damage even if not fully upgraded, but the Rhogar Heart dropped by the Inferno Abbesses in the Castle are the best.
Spells... mostly used Infernal Hands for buffing weapon damage. I think, depending on your choice of weapon Adyr's Rage may be better.
Spells, Cataclysm and Magma Surge can do fun things. Cataclysm can put some serious hurt on big targets but it aims very close to the player. Magma Surge will oneshot all of those pesky ranged mobs and leave a puddle of magma that lingers for a while.
Cataclysm requires the Tortured Prisoner questline followed for a while, and Magma Surge can purchased from the Spurned Progeny Remembrance.
If you're planning to do lots of casting, the Tortured Prisoner will sell a ring that regenerates mana (which stacks with shield runes afaik) the same time she sells Cataclysm. Expensive, but very powerful.
Noted, I managed to beat Lightreaper early. So far, I've used the Fallen Lord's sword but I could try rebirth Chrysalis to swap from the strength I had to agility if that would be better. Still thank you for all the suggestions.
Regarding Chrysalis, it will set back your stats to starting level, so if you went with the higher level Radiance class, you will loose those 20 or so points in Radiance. Not a super big deal and you're already fairly lategame so I suspect you wouldn't want to reboot just for that. Also not necessary if you're strictly PvE.
You can get one free Chrysalis after defeating the Crow, jumping into the riverbed and exploring the left side, it's hidden in one of the Umbra Bellies.
I probably will dual wield Ruiner Axe myself. Or find a good ignite/fire combo.
I have a question about the Socket Runes. I try putting the Runes in but they seem to either hide the difference or have such little difference it barely matters. Is there a better way to gauge them?
There is no UI update (only scaling letter updates) after socketing runes, you'll have to do real life testing.
