playing offline is the only way to go with this.
You will still get red lamps so you can still get plucked eyes.
Alternatively, just join a couple co-op sessions to get experience in combat and Vigor from a few bosses.
Lets be honest. If you're scared of being invaded chances are you'll play through the game once- maybe twice. So chances are, even if you force yourself to 'deal' with invaders for the sake of online features like the shrines/revenge, you wont really be able to buy much of anything at the shrines apart from a couple dyes and 100% NOT gear sets for the achievement. Doing crucibles for free currency is just a better option while offline at that point.
If you want to play CO-OP then invaders are usually just free currency. I've NEVER lost a 2v1.
I played offline from the start. I get the "you're currently offline" message every time I boot the game up, and I see red lanterns.
If you not happy with the invasions (lets say, turns out you are chosen by the system to be invaded more often) you can turn offline mode and it is 100% granted you will not get invaded.
2. Rest at a Vestige or exit to the menu (no penalty)
Once you have an effective way to kill the crimson reaper you can farm hundreds of thousands of souls by just doing areas and a boss at the end while being in umbral for that x3 boost. You can even further boost it by making a weapon that takes the increased vigor rune, and two moth rings. The most i've made was in the sewers, through the entire area, reaper bosses at the well, skin boss by the cage elevator, harrower at the bottom wayfarer in upper calrath. it was well over 3 million Vigor in under an hour.
I also play in "offline" mode and get the lanterns almost every other teleport/reload.
