I progressed a bit after the gate and there was another one on the bridge with a knight (like the boss previously in the game). I was going through heals like candy.
If this is just an unbalanced mob then this is total BS.
Like, they have a predator stealth cloak and 2 tap you, alternate between 2 fire modes and are very agressive in melee.
If you come from Dark Souls or any FromSoft game, it's kinda easy to see them as an homage to every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sniper enemy those games have - doesn't make it any better, but that's what it seems to be.
With a bit of distance... I think they're meant to be an enemy you're not meant to treat like trash.
Their aim / shoot cadence is weird and their melee is insane for a ranged enemy, so you gotta come up with something else.
What worked for me was either brute forcing them with the Umbral Javelin spell from the Hushed Knight, or, what works universally: go cover by cover until their cloak drops and then just soulflay them - depleted their complete health bar every time in one go with both 'deal more damage to souls' eyes equipped.
That makes them really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trivial, to be honest.
good luck!
The dogs and small frozen zombies are the trash mobs. The archers and huge axe warriors are much tougher and you're supposed to approach them as a threat. That's why you rarely ever encounter more than one at a time.
I still have a couple more areas to investigate, guess I'll go there first. Right now I'm too annoyed, to go into the Fief.
Thanks everyone.
I'll try that next time I'm there. Thanks )
I also found that throwing weapons (used enhanced hammer) works well, I could 3 tap them with those and each hit would stagger them.
The archers will be the biggest issue, they're ment to punish non-shield users. They're kinda stupid though and if they spot you, and you hide at a corner, they'll some times just walk into your sword.
If you're having any trouble at all in any area, it's best to just join a couple random co-op sessions. A couple of bosses is a huge vigor boost early game.
