Just go to Kinranger who just bodies me relentlessly. First run so I am trying not to spoil things for myself (even though I think I locked myself out of one of the routes handing over the Book of sin). I don't know what I'm doing an the NPCs are taking a massive spike in strength and I don't know where I should be farming souls.

Any advice plz?

You can go other places (literally) or you can get rid of the blue thing without going to Umbral.
Rise the lamp and use light attack (hold light attack for like 1s or 2s) and you dont need to go to Umbral, then the hardest fight because of the butthead spitting stuff at you become a joke.
Like my predecessor said for the klinranger boss, you need to get rid of that blue ball in umbral just focus lamplight on it for like a sec and it will disappear.
I assume you asre going to the snow area that's more of a second part of game area, the first area you want to head to is mines and then onward to the end of that, you get there via the kinda blighttown in early game.
As for soul farming i honestly got no idea, i personally didn't need to farm them really, just went with natural progression

So far I've gotten to the swamp area and cleared the first beacon. The suspicious man in the chapel told me to head to the cold zone and I had enough souls to buy the key so I was opening zones up.
About farming runes ... the vestige close to the boss you are fighting is the best one for a long time, you are probably killing those enemies in 1 to 3 hits, just the enemies around that area give you 3500 runes (I think 3850 at Umbral), you may also easily farm the item to purchase armor as enemies there are weak and still have another 900 runes with the duo past the redcopse windmill gate and you may get 3500 to 4000 runes every 3 minutes or so, 4000 to 5000 runes with 1 extra minute.
Later on, if you find somewhere easy and safe to farm that gives you more runes per minute go for it.

a lot of people relentlessly eat the ice explosion for some reason. This is a boss that is incredibly weak to side stepping. Dont tap dodge twice, only once and side step. wait for the ice explosion, get a couple hits. You dont even have to I-frame, you completely avoid the swing, just make sure to be right next to him at all times. If you're at a distance his ranged ice attack is kinda hard to dodge if you're trying to close the distance.

You can still go more places from there before doing the boss you opened topic about.

The problem is not "him alone" but the whole package, the fight becomes too chaotic and a mess to deal with.

the fight is really easy if you get the hang of side dodging. I can literally coach you through it right now if you want lol
Thank you but was not needed, I already dealt with it by getting rid of the blue thing without going to Umbral.

You can ofc go there, but the route after hushed saint is the easiest one but it is a looong one and opens up another route along the way, my recommendation is you finish that one first, but ofc you can just do the snow one it's not very hard tbh.
If you struggle in snow area then yeah going to first route is the way to go, you'll get lvls along the way just by progressing

Sounds like you're just going into late game areas too early. Come back to those places when you're higher level with better gear.

Fair, I went into that area around I think level 20 with nothing but Pilgrim outfit and a sword I just recently got. I have managed to enter the burning village now. I also noticed it was pretty rough entering the Bell land with the key I bought from the angry order man.

"Angry older man" is a perfect way to describe the captain when you first meet him lmao
