I'm a Souls enjoyer, I’ve finished every FromSoftware game and I do a lot of PvP, arena, and everything in between.

So hey, I just started this game after the 2.0 update. I played a bit, bought my first gear and weapon, and got ready to beat the game.

Then suddenly, someone invades my world. HOW COOL !! My first PvP encounter! I’m excited to test it out.

In the distance, I see my opponent. I start approaching, but the closer I get, the more I notice…

Whoa, he’s got a shiny weapon. Damn. And his armor? Full of spikes and looking awesome. Where did he get that stuff? I’m literally just at the beginning of the game.

Well, no matter, I’m ready. Let’s parry and fight!

Two hits later.
WTF IS THIS SH**?!?! How did I not stand a chance? I was hitting him for 20 damage and he TWO-SHOTTED me.
How is this FUN??

And this didn’t just happen once — it happened twice. People told me to use "mirrors", but sorry, that just feels like bad game design. At least in Souls games, PvP encounters are more balanced, you only get matched with people around 20 levels above or below you.

So what, it’s fun for veterans to one-shot some random newbie? And it’s fun for new players to get obliterated just because they didn’t buy some item they didn’t even know about?

Sorry, but not sorry — that’s bad game design.

it's weird because i invaded some guy closer to my lv the day before that and was doing 230-300 dmg with +6 fitsroy's sword and crossbow of choice. but then with +9 gear i suddenly do far less damage?

i also invaded someone that looked like the guy you describe in the post and after plunging attack killing the host they came at me like a golden EF 5 torando of spinning blades and golden wrath... they were absolutely mashing the ♥♥♥♥ out of the attack button with thier dual short swords and despite parrying them they just brute forced through me because parrying someone doesn't actually punish them for being careless unless you stance break them thus rewarding brainless play.

perfect block need to:

A: be an instant stance break opening up for grievous strike. and in return make hitting the perfect a little block stricter.
or,
B: keep the multiple perfect blocks to stance break but when you DO perfect block a player it stuns them for a long enough time leaving them open for not a grievous strike but a counter retaliation of light or heavy attack.

the idea is to punish players when they play dumb and reckless and create a mental note of what happened the last time the mashed or spammed BS

just as you see player get parried in elden ring they visibily reel back and are staggered for moment after having their attack bounce off your shield. but the golden blender that i previously mention wasn't even stunned or staggered or flinched even for .5 seconds and just when back to blenderizing me. devs should increase the recovery frames of the person that was parried.

they should also just get rid of the damage scaling system because it hamstrings you're damage as a lower lv against higher lvs when you need it most. get rid of it, upscale everyone's hp and have us do full damage.

pvp in this game should be about skillful play and not about being a bigger badder fish. if you're a higher lv player and you charge a mid level or lower level player mindlessly mashing and they parry you, you should pay dearly for you're carelessness allowing lower levels to bridge the gap between higher level player and lower level players via skill.

and there's times where skillful play doesn't even feel that satisfying, i invaded a lower level player at least in relation to my lv... after he got done cutting down a few umbral enemies he locked eyes with me and charged me head on with reckless abandon when i tried to greet him cordially, not even recovering his health first and he started mashing prompting me to hit a double perfect block and grievous strike him.

side note: was trying to be nice to that player was even about to drop some items for them.

as far as i've seen this game rewards you for playing like a dummy spamming and mashing like there's no brain activity up there and 9/10 it seems you are punished for trying to utilize the mechanics at play, (like parrying) or should say, SHOULD be at play.

20% skill and outsmarting other players/80% being a higher level and winning because of that.

lastly, honestly all this applies to the invaded as well. this goes both ways.

you can get that "shiny weapon" literally from the very first boss in the game. its a very early game weapon. not end game gear at all.

I also don't believe anything else you said tbh lmao. disable multiplayer if you don't wanna get invaded. enable it again after second or third boss. by then you're strong enough to compete with 90% of all invaders

to be fair just because you beat that boss doesn't necessarily mean you can get it right away. it costs 40 umbral scouring which I doubt anyone has walking into the hub area. player might also be tempted to get other remembrance boss equipment as well. which would require saving up additional umbral scouring if they also wanna get Pieta's sword.

im lv 70 and got over 100 umbral scouring and still haven't gotten around to get that gear yet lol. you can get more by playing co-op however.

I know. I'm not saying you should get that weapon. I meant to say that this isn't fancy end game gear. It's literally the very first boss weapon in the game. Just because someone has that doesn't imply he's some kind of lvl 500 pvp god. That's what I meant

That is fair. Even though you probably dont have enough umbral scouring to get it right after beating Pieta it is an early game weapon just wanted to point that out, wasn't trying to discredit you.

There are some enemies before Pieta where it is easy to farm (I think when I beaten Pieta I had around 20 or 25) and by Belled Rise vestige almost every time I rest there someone died to the big guy there or to something else close by (if not by the Belled Rise door that require a key), those two are strong but with Septic Heave them both die easy just going behind the closed gate, clear the area from enemies in the Umbral and use Septic Heave on both enemies, you can use spells from gates that are not at Umbral, these gates still hold enemies (I find it even unfair and exploitable to do that, these two also drop gear and it is possible to exploit it very early on).

Farmed some levels before Pieta to use weapon I had got and ended up farming umbral scourings too.
