does it make sense for me AND my friend to buy the game?
so we want to play the game together but i have heard about some problems occuring with boss loot when playing with the friend pass.
now my question is would this problem be fixed if we are both buying the game? and is there even any benefit if we both buy the game and no friends pass is involved?

So I think theres a lot of confusion right now because many players are mistakenly inviting/connecting to each other without using the shared progression option. As long as you use shared progression then your friend on the Friend Pass will have access to all the static item drops around the maps. If you don't connect via shared progression they will not see all of those drops.

EDIT: They will not have access to crafted boss items on friend pass. (From what I can see at least, there's no option on Friend Pass to hand in the item to the NPC to unlock Remembrance crafting.)

How to connect using shared progression:

Under settings - Multiplayer: Both players set the same password.
The host now clicks "beckon player" at the ritual stone.
The friend now clicks "join session (shared progress)" at the ritual stone.

I hope this helps!

The benefit of both owning the game is just that you can play alone and are not dependant on each other to play the game.

I hope this helps!

I've heard that a lot of people have encountered a lot of errors if they use Shared Progression though? Even saw a thread about 2 people being on the same local network but still encountering "lag" (enemies and characters running in place).

I've had this issue randomly but it's inconsistent. Usually if I notice issues I DC and reconnect. Once it works, it stays working from what I've seen.

Ah actually I was wrong sorry. I edited my original post to update. Its the crafted items that you wont have access to on friend pass. We double checked and my husband cannot talk to the NPC that crafts them to hand in the item required.
I guess if he owned the game he probably could do that? At the least he could go back to single player to do it and then rejoin I guess. But I am not 100% sure.
Personally I don't think its game breaking though. There are plenty of drops in the game, so if you'd rather save money just use the Friend Pass. If your friends a little OCD and has gotta catch 'em all, then have them buy the game too.

Yeah the game mods admitted there are a lot of bugs with the Shared Progression/Co-op right now. I am not sure if this is intended feature or one of the bugs (with the crafted boss loot I mean.) Lots of players are having issues with lag, with ladders and blocked areas also.

Personally me and my husband have been fine on the Friend Pass version once we realised we had to use the shared progression. Prior to that he missed a lot of drops and couldn't upgrade his potions which was really bad lol. We havent had any lag, just the ladder bug.

The games really fun though, maybe a little bit easy. But I think its worth buying while its on sale and waiting a week or so for some patch fixes.
