GUIDE : How to play shared coop (without lag)
Just played through the entire game with someone. Went through the issues from regular coop at first, of not being able to pick up items. So we then tried shared progression, but there was massive lag.

We were able to find a good compromise and played through the entire game, only issue is Sainty Quintessences are 1 pickup only. So both players have to share, the host can drop every 2nd one for example.

Make sure you have the same password, in settings > multiplayer

On the player joining, go to multiplayer > shared progression

On the host go to multiplayer > beckon PLAYER

The player will load into the hosts world. Once that happens, the host kicks the player.

Then the player joining goes back to multiplayer > shared progression.

The host will go to multiplayer > beckon FRIEND

They'll summon in, able to pickup all items except the Quintessences and you can play through the entire game together without lag.

How to beckon friend if you arent on the same platform? Oo so this is halve BS

I'm pretty sure the progress still doesn't get saved for the guest's world using this method. We've tried and yes u can pick up all the items etc. but vestiges don't get saved this way. I'm assuming boss kill progress and beacons don't get saved either. So you're still just playing regular coop but with the ability to pick up items etc.

Well my friend couldn't pick up the items that upgrade the Estus Flask thing. But the rest was okay. :)
Couldn't you co op normally then join your friend via shared progression to update your save file with theirs, then hop back to normal co op, for e.g?

Well make sure to check if your friend's world also has the bosses killed and the vestiges unlocked, I'm guessing they don't.
Just tested it again, it doesn't really work, it didn't even unlock the socketing of weapons for me even though we "unlocked" it together.

So all this method does is allow u to get items while being guest, but your world won't get updated and you're gonna have to run through it again with your coop partner or by yourself. You do kinda duplicate items this way tho cause u can pick up everything twice

Yes it's not real "shared progression", in the way that both worlds are updated. But the player joining, still keeps ALL items / weapons. So if you're trying to play through the entire game with someone with from friend pass, or just as a complete coop experience. Then this works 100%.

They were able to socket their weapons, the same time I was. Because we unlocked it together, as long as they stayed on my world when they do

Unfortunatelly it is not real "shared" progression. Beckoning a friend does help with the lag issue but you will not progress into your own world :/

hhmmm everybody kinda missunderstood this. this is almost correct guide tho? after you play using beckon friend. if you want to catch up progression. ask your friend to host (beckon player) and you join shared progression.

the idea is, shared progression will have massive lag. so use beckon player for playing, and after you guys done playing, use shared progression at the end of session so the guest player will update their progress on the host story. (you can do it at the start tho if you want, just keep each other progress in loop not so far apart)

massive head up tho. some fix item will not spawn on guest player. (like the upgrade for the flask)

I don't know if they changed this, but you used to be able to effortlessly dupe nearly any items by just dropping them on the ground and then reloading a back up save. So you should be able to dupe quintessances for eachother if that's your only issue. Assuming they are still droppable.
