Where does the Friend Pass content end?

I think the furthest I got was where the traveler guy gives me a seed and tells me he won't help any more. Then there's a stairway I can go up some way along a wall with a vista.

Can I go further or is that all in this mode?

I really hoped I'd get to see at least a real boss.
