How does the friend pass work?

Can we play with eachother if we both download friend pass or does one of us have to get the normal game so the other can use friend pass?

From what i've understood, both of you can get the friend pass. Try the character creation and tutorial. If you like it, one of you need to buy a full copy of the game and then that person will host and the other person can join and you can then play through the whole game together.

I'm kind of curious if you play co-op with a friend pass, if you make progress without your friend does your friend automatically sync up or do you need to go back to help them progress.

With the friend pass you can progress though the tutorial area then arrive at a "Bonfire" spot. You cannot go past this "Bonfire" By yourself you have to join a player who owns the game. Then you can adventure with him.

So in your case one of you need to own the game and the other can get the friend pass. The person with the friend pass only needs the game if they want DLC or to play alone

You can only have yourself and 1 other person adventuring with you.

If anyone knows lmk. If I play the game on the friend pass (IE my friend gave me the pass and they own the game) and end up liking the game so much that I buy it for myself so I can play on my own time will my save data transfer? Or will I have to restart.
