Confused by Elianne the Starved?

Ok so, I'm not even sure if this is something I can try and do at this point. This is my first playthrough, I got Pieta's Sword early on obviously, and read that it's got this oh so handy sword art when combined with Elianne's Sword. But when I read through the details, it seems that the only way I can even fight her at all, is to do the "Umbral Ending"?

Is that correct? is there a way to fight her, and thus get her remembrance without doing that ending? Or is her sword basically locked behind an NG+ run?

yeah you'll have to follow the Umral ending to meet her/fight Her :)

Yes. But you can't cleanse the beacons at all. If you want to see how, I recommend FightinCowboy's walkthrough. He does the Umbral Ending for it.
