Is this the same as the 2014 Lords of the Fallen?

Is this a remake? Remaster? Different game altogether? Any history on the names and why there is no distinction?

It's not a remake or a remaster. It is part 2, takes place 1000 years after the first part from 2014 and the main character of the first part is an NPC in the 2nd part.
The game itself plays differently, has a completely different dynamic and 2 worlds (like Soulreaver)

does not matter, story is very lackluster just like the first game, it is only gameplay, and its not that good just like the first one, only thing it has going for it is the amazing art direction

The game's faster compared to 2014.
Amazing armour pieces, weapons and loot galore to make cool looking characters.
Level design is 10/10 and areas are cool with the Umbral Lamp offering a different perspective and traversal of each level.
I'd say that the 2014 had better sound design and impact and better performance.
I hope that LOTF 2023 will receive a massive update that will fix or replace the sound for weapon hits and more fixes to performance here and there to make it even more smooth ( though it's significantly better since launch).
