Charms are sh*t. They're giving you like 150-160 bonus DMG max and it's a complete ♥♥♥♥. Compare this to defence buffs rings will give you and you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm not using hammers, spears, flails or small weapons. I'm using huge swords and shield with 3 extra runes.
I thought about upgrading Harkyn's hammer but it's too slow, even slower than huge swords. Poison is actually not that bad, sadly though, there's not a lot of cool looking swords with huge poison build up, so I'm using bombs for that which are better I think cuz they've AOE and are much safer to use than going melee.
I'm using the eye which transforms HP damage to wither damage when you charge a weapon, but b*tch Judge Cleric almost always lands a few hits to make this effect useless. I've 55 levels so far in my pocket and if I can't beat her with almost all stats at 40, I'll start raising stats. I think I can beat her alone without investing extra 55 levels, but it's going to take a while.
Why am I not investing them right now? Well, cuz this effin' game only has a very limited amount of respec items and I really don't want to respec, it's just not something I like doing. I can save scam of course and I do that for other things (endings for example), but I rather not.
Here's my build - https://i.imgur.com/RwQmglS.png
I've invested a lot of vigor into Agility to properly use Harrower Dervla sword and get a nice boost to Bow damage, but the thing about Harrower Dervla sword is that 1) its damage is way lower than what you get out of Ravager Gregory's sword 2) you can't use weapon art unless you equip stupid arms item and 3) The frost buildup is great when it activates, but HUGE weapons simply not been balances to use this mechanic at all - huge weapons are very slow and you need to land a good number of hits to trigger the effect.
Here's also one thing this game is sh*t in - weapon arts. Not only there's a sh*t amount of them, but to use some of them you need to do some stupid crap, while in DS3 and Elden Ring you simply can use them and that's it. Ugh. It makes you question which stupid idiot made all these bad design decisions during development. I mean, I'm sorry, but that's what I think about all of this and the game objectively has lots of questionable or plain bad design decisions. I still like it a lot with all the BS it has, but I can't say nothing if I really don't like something.
I honestly prefer a long term goal over from soft 's short burst of confetti that fundamentally hasn't been thought about thoroughly.
You Don have to unlock "all" you can just unlock all the boss abilities you actually want to use. I personally have all of them, but you can easily do 3-4 in one playthrough. It's not that hard. Just summon stormund for hushed, and the guy in the tower. Do the Halloween quest, bring him the banner, talk to the failed pilgrim on the way. He's not even hidden, he's always following you. Get the chalice and you already have: hushed Saint, tankard, and all judge cleric weapons + the secret wooden stick ability.
These abilities are so strong because they have to be earned.
What is the long term goal in LOTF? From games have a lot of options from the start and you can level up a lot more weapons to the max instead of just a very few. Weapon arts are available for most of the weapons right from the start and you don't need to do anything else (in Elden Ring you do, but it is very easy). In LOTF some of the weapons even share the same moveset and there's only a few unique weapons with weapon arts which limits variety and experimentation A LOT and it's not good.
Co-op is way better in From's games, net code is way better as well, co-op and multiplayer systems are also way better. You can farm in From's games and level up, you can help people kill bosses way more easily, farm that way and level up, you can't do any of this sh*t in LOTF cuz of terrible net code, the system they're using and you can't farm cuz regular enemies giving you the same exact vigor as in NG and ring is useless.
You're extremely limited with what you can do in LOTF and you can only do it in one specific way devs want you to and they could not care less that other games did it better for almost 14 years.
I only like one (don't care about the rest), but refuse to use it cuz it forces you to equip an item which is stupid.
I can only see myself finishing NG+ and after that that's it until they'll fix NG+ and release expansions - Idk if that even possible, at this point I'd rather play a much better sequel without wasting ideas on smaller expansions.
1) In case you didn't get it after reading the thread - I like to play the game alone and not use anyone's help during boss fights. Summoning NPC's are pointless cuz all they're good at is to agro the boss and die fast.
2) I don't like to be forced to use weapons I don't like visually or moveset wise just to beat a boss.
3) I much prefer From's weapon arts which are way better than what LOTF has. And it's not just flashy moves LOTF has (which might as well be magic as regular magic scrolls have + - similar stuff), it's completely different movesets from standard attacks which you can use strategically in various situations including bosses.
I guess you can say that I'm creating difficulties for myself by not playing a certain way or by not using weapons I don't like, but why should I play how others want me to? Am I actlually playng the game then or someone else? The way I see it, LOTF has a lot of bad design decisions which are limiting you in how you can play the game, but at the same time offering you way more that original game did. It's like they walked only half way and not fully committed to providing a much better experience.
Here's the thing though, 14 years have passed since Dark Souls was releases and just a bit more since Demon's Souls. A lot of From games were released since then, a lot of Souls-likes as well. Isn't this enough to make your game better and not making bad design decisions? It's not bad if you're borrowing something from someone else, it's more important how you're using it to make your game better and the best it can be.
I don't like Elden Ring as much as most people are, I like it a lot, but I've also a lot of issues with it and it doesn't have any of the bad design decisions LOTF has. I know that LOTF had very difficult development which was restarted from scratch at least 2 times. I can clearly see that they made this game with love and passion, but at the same time it boggles my mind how at the same time it suffers from issues you simply don't expect from a game like this, especially if it's not an indie game.
Don't get me wrong, what they did with LOTF reboot is WAAAAAY BETTER that Deck 13's game from 2014, and I've finished this game 2 times so I can compare.
I already said that they are going to re balance Ng+ at the start.
It's okay that you don't care about most things, it's silly that you're complaining that your weapon choices and build choices YOU MADE are not optimal for damage.
Why are you playing NG+ 1 if you don't want to lvl up and optimize. That's the point of it, having a bigger challange. Just wait for the NG modifier update.
I've given you ample advice, but you don't want any, you just want to complain and rant.
Man, it is a known fact that damage builds are complete ♥♥♥♥ in this game, hence why I invested into Radiance and using Radiance spells as well. I can't even imagine how ♥♥♥♥ the game is if you're going for pure strength builds.
Can you imagine From games with pointless strength builds? No, cuz it's impossible to see such things in From games cuz it's plain stupid.
It's not that I don't want to, it's because of limited respec items and the fact that you don't even need to level up to deal with regular enemies and it's doable to even kill main bosses with without leveling up further, the problem is that they've insane amount of HP and DMG boost, which is pure BS and fake challange. Bosses don't have new movesets, new phases etc. they're exactly the same but way more boring and tedious cuz of what I've already mentioned. It's not a challenge, it's pure tedium and boredom.
Waiting 5 months already. There's no need for modifiers tbh, they just need to reduce HP and DMG at least 2 times while at the same time rework how status effects work using huge and slow weapons, not to mentione fix pointless strength only builds.
That's not true and I can only thank you for trying to help, which is much appreciated. But understand one thing, the reason I have issues with the game is not bc I hate it, but bc I love it and want it to be better and the same can be said about other games.
I'll try to use some of the stuff you've mentioned without compromising the way I want to play. Thank you!
The fix coming is Modifiers. You can choose not to use them, but you'll keep either eating your pain or adapting. My vote is also on you adapting. My char is under lvl 400 and I stomp *ALL* of NG+, and I use a 2H Flickering Flail (not the greatest for dmg).. sounds like you need to git gud (I have 100 RAD/80 STR in stats also)
I had zero problems with everything excet the last 4-main bosses and Abiding Defenders, when I had all stats at 40. Regular enemies are just nothing after NG and you don't even need to level up further to deal with them. I even killed the secret boss which is using the two hammers first try (one of the best bosses in the game).
There's absolutely no need to be level ~400 for NG+ as you can beat even unballanced main bosses at level 200+ just like I did.
My current stats and build - https://i.imgur.com/fvYlDrb.png Had to respec to deal with the last 2 main bosses.
Sounds like BS from anyone who's saying that anywhere ever.
