Interesting, I may do a run of the original just for curiosity sake, because even on release I did not think it was as bad as people claimed it was, it just was not a FS souls game so people automatically disliked it.
That's not why people disliked it. It was just not a great game. Graphics (at the time) were solid but a lot left to be desired.
Even in this one, while it's deff better, I still feel the dodge and attack animations are WAY too wide/go way too far. It makes the combat feel super janky. If you're going to put small corridor like pathways where you can fall down, don't make your dodge literally dodge off of it.
This is where we just disagree as I find this LOTF much better feeling and looking then ER and its why its one of my favorite non FS souls games.
As for the older LOTF I just remember it feeling way more weighy then other souls games at the time, even the other souls-likes the devs team made (Surge 1-2) had this heavy weighty feeling. Imo its not really an objective "bad" thing it is just preference and getting use to different gameplay styles.
I remember enjoying the first game but it just was not as memorable, but I really enjoyed Surge 1 from the same dev team.
EDIT: I also wanted to add one of the most beloved From Soft games, Bloodborne has the same wide dodges, that slides the player halfway across the floor and that game is on 30 fps so it feels even more sluggish there. In games like that no one has an issue but in something else it then become a problem somehow?
I greatly disliked it in Bloodborne as well and as much as I wanted to love that game, the 30 fps lock really killed it for me. I also enjoy The Surge 1 (from a gameplay perspective) more so than I did surge 2. Surge 2 felt way too floaty and less heavy, sadly.
I also like Surge 1 much more then Surge 2 in almost every way, but Surge 1 has very floaty, dashes and attacks similar to this game and the first LOTF, so I don't really get why you have an issue with it specifically in this game.
I played it on launch so I know what the game is and if it is worth another try. Also I was never directly comparing the games, more so I was interested in the lore details between the 2 games.
i personally don't feel the game is that bad, as I like the devs other souls-likes (Surge series).
I couldn't give you a proper answer. I feel like it just clicked more and made more sense. I didn't always like it in surge 1 either but for some reason it felt less off to me.
I'm not trying to say I hate lords of the fallen btw. I actually think it's better than I thought at first, i've just noticed some things that peeve me about it.
Fair enough
