Worth $40?
It's on sale at the moment for $35.99 + tax. The reviews are really mixed. In your opinion, is this worth a $40 price tag for someone who loved the Dark Souls/Elden Ring games?

Or, are we still looking at a "good effort, but the devs still don't understand why the Souls games were good" scenario, like so many other souls-likes?

100% worth $40. I love those games.

We were never talking about "good effort, but the devs still don't understand why the Souls games were good." That's nonsense. This is the unequivocally the best non-FS souls like there is. Better than lies of P.

Assume MP is scuffed but so are the MP of all FS games.

Numerous hours in all souls games, The game fits the bill. My only gripe is crashes. Seems to be an amd thing.

I mean... if you have a great PC which can easily run UE5 games on Ultra and if you don't mind about the combat being a bit weird, go for it.

These developers have a long way to go in order to make a great souls-like though, I guess it is better than the first LotF game, but still, compared to Lies of P which came out before this game, this game is very below average, Lies of P is perfect in everything, this game just tried to be Dark Souls too much, but they only managed to get it right in terms of visuals imo, the gameplay and performance are quite bad.

I haven't played Elden Ring but those who did/do, like it much more than Lord of the fallen. At least they made that impression.

It depends on how it will run on your system - but my opinion in general is that It's not worth it LMAO.... I bought Deluxe Edition for 20$ - that's max i would recommend paying AND if you don't have strong system then i recommend avoiding this game entirely.

I've RTX4080/13600K/2x16gb DDR4 4000/CL16 rig.

The game stutters like crazy for me - i've not seen such crazy stuttering in any game even Jedi Survivor run better than this for me, i had serious issues beating the winged girl boss at beginning because of it, it was literally unplayable in my opinion, thankfully i managed to make it work somewhat by disabling REBAR via nvida profile inspector and enabling frame generation on top of that.

There's MUCH less stuttering now, but still this is not good, the game needs lots of work still in my opinion. I will try it at 4K tommorow we'll see how that disaster goes. I also had a thought about disabling E-cores but i haven't tested that yet.

The experience was even worse for me since i went straight from Lies of P into this, since that game runs perfectly - i had zero crashes/stuttering or fps drops in lies of p and ye the game is nowhere near close LoFT in terms of graphics quality, but it runs butter smooth at far higher fps than this game.

EDIT: I tried disabling E-cores and it's like i'm playing completely different game lol . There is still some minor stuttering and the traversal stutter here and there but it's actually fully playable game now, i would recommend for all 13-gen owners to try it might fix your issues or at least make the situation better like in my case. So e-core and rebar off and fg on seems like the way to go.

Elden Ring will probably stay on the throne forever unless FromSoftware decides to do a sequel or something similar to Elden Ring, if you compare Lords of the Fallen to Elden Ring, it's a huge disrespect for Elden Ring, that game is just amazing, has HUGE world and huge amount of people still play it to this day, especially now after the DLC has been announced.

Need to make something very clear...

Elden Ring is the greatest souls ever made, comparing it to say Dark Souls would require intoxicating amounts of nostalgia.

LOTF is frustrating and the bosses are the easiest ive ever seen in a souls. I died 4 times total to bosses and countless times to falling/being pushed. NPC's are bland but serviceable and the atmosphere can feel like binge watching Rob Zombie movies. Combat feels floaty, your character lunges forward whenever they attack.(takes some getting used to)

Being honest many bad game design "decisions" here. But if you need the souls fix tell ER DLC then sure its worth $35.

Edit: No stuttering or frame issues here.

A much more fair price reflecting the actual quality of the game, unlike the release price.

Reddit Ring is overhyped, bloated normie trash, let's be real here. The open world pivot will be the whole genre's undoing.

The latter. It's superficially very much like DS1, but doesn't end up playing like it at all; you pretty much don't ever get the choice of multiple areas to explore (at least in the first 15 or so hours), it's very "boss-rushy", and it thinks the Souls games were primarily action games instead of being exploration-focused adventure/RPGs. Visual design is of the "oooh, skulls and spikes! Aren't we sooooo dark and edgy?!?!" school instead of the "elegant but decaying" Souls vibe, and the nearly monochromatic color scheme of the umbral world makes things even worse on this front.

As someone that is not particularly good at souls games, but enjoyed Elden Ring, I would say this game is well worth $40. I have a modest setup with a Nvidia 3060Ti with a Ryzen 5 5600, and run under Linux, but I have yet to find a place in the world that is close to stuttery (minus the first 2 secs of the game on launch when it lagged like 1 fps standing up in the water).

I have enjoyed the whole game really, minus maybe the Castle at the end, so far. It seems out of place, and thrown together, compared to the rest of the game.

I'm still playing it off and on since launch. Still pretty fun. Definitely worth playing if you liked Dark Souls and Elden Ring. There are 3 endings so you have to complete it at least 3 times for the achievement on completing all the endings. I've still only done two. Haven't broke down yet to google the third. Lots of weapons and armor, items, and spells. If you are just into PvP you might not like the game so much from what I've read. I just play offline but don't feel I'm missing anything. It's definitely worth 40 bucks.
