We were never talking about "good effort, but the devs still don't understand why the Souls games were good." That's nonsense. This is the unequivocally the best non-FS souls like there is. Better than lies of P.
Assume MP is scuffed but so are the MP of all FS games.
These developers have a long way to go in order to make a great souls-like though, I guess it is better than the first LotF game, but still, compared to Lies of P which came out before this game, this game is very below average, Lies of P is perfect in everything, this game just tried to be Dark Souls too much, but they only managed to get it right in terms of visuals imo, the gameplay and performance are quite bad.
I've RTX4080/13600K/2x16gb DDR4 4000/CL16 rig.
The game stutters like crazy for me - i've not seen such crazy stuttering in any game even Jedi Survivor run better than this for me, i had serious issues beating the winged girl boss at beginning because of it, it was literally unplayable in my opinion, thankfully i managed to make it work somewhat by disabling REBAR via nvida profile inspector and enabling frame generation on top of that.
There's MUCH less stuttering now, but still this is not good, the game needs lots of work still in my opinion. I will try it at 4K tommorow we'll see how that disaster goes. I also had a thought about disabling E-cores but i haven't tested that yet.
The experience was even worse for me since i went straight from Lies of P into this, since that game runs perfectly - i had zero crashes/stuttering or fps drops in lies of p and ye the game is nowhere near close LoFT in terms of graphics quality, but it runs butter smooth at far higher fps than this game.
EDIT: I tried disabling E-cores and it's like i'm playing completely different game lol . There is still some minor stuttering and the traversal stutter here and there but it's actually fully playable game now, i would recommend for all 13-gen owners to try it might fix your issues or at least make the situation better like in my case. So e-core and rebar off and fg on seems like the way to go.
Elden Ring is the greatest souls ever made, comparing it to say Dark Souls would require intoxicating amounts of nostalgia.
LOTF is frustrating and the bosses are the easiest ive ever seen in a souls. I died 4 times total to bosses and countless times to falling/being pushed. NPC's are bland but serviceable and the atmosphere can feel like binge watching Rob Zombie movies. Combat feels floaty, your character lunges forward whenever they attack.(takes some getting used to)
Being honest many bad game design "decisions" here. But if you need the souls fix tell ER DLC then sure its worth $35.
Edit: No stuttering or frame issues here.
I have enjoyed the whole game really, minus maybe the Castle at the end, so far. It seems out of place, and thrown together, compared to the rest of the game.
