Frame Generation greyed out even with -DLSSFG set
Anyone else able to get frame generation working? I have a 4080 and the game barely uses 60-70% usage but only 80-100fps quite often, frame generation would make a world of difference but using the launch tag to enable it only makes it show up as a greyed out option in the menu..

Hmm maybe something with new patch? I tried before and it was working -DLSSFG and i had it ON. I have 4090 and 13900K

Framegeneration is greyed out IF DLSS is set to OFF

Additional, be sure that Low Latency mode is set to ULTRA, open the NVIDIA Control Panel, head to “Manage 3D Settings”, and scroll down to “Low Latency Mode”

Only 60-70% GPU utilization sounds a lot like resolution scaling = 50%
Be sure to set resolution scaling to 100%

Well for example standing on the balcony outside the Vestige of Lydia the Numb Witch, I get 91fps, but 63% GPU usage. CPU usage is overall 50%, core 2 is fairly maxed though.
I do have DLSS enabled on quality but frame generation is still greyed out. Resolution scaling is on 100%, I play at 1440p. I had low latency mode off so I tried ultra but it didn't help. I've played since launch but never been able to use the option.

Which CPU is in your RIG? 63% GPU usage sound like a CPU bottleneck.

Additional: use steam startoption: -DLSSFG

Go to C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\LOTF2\Saved\Config\Windows

Delete your GameUserSettings.ini and let the game create a NEW one and check if FG is functional
Sounds like 2015 cpu paired with a pointless 4xxx series, as kids do these sad days

It's Ryzen 9 5900X, not the fastest but not bad by any standards, get amazing performance in all but the most unoptimised games. I tried the gamesettings ini, no luck unfortunately

Late 2020 actually

If framegeneration is greyed out, it's because of either drivers being outdated, or the nvngx_dlssg.dll and sl.dlss_g.dll are outdated.
Go to the game folder
SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Lords of the Fallen\LOTF2\Plugins\Streamline\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64
And delete all the dll files there, and verify the game. Restart steam too.

If you can see the framegeneration option, then it's just a version issue. You wouldn't see the option if you had a corrupted dll file or it was missing, or you didn't use the command.

Nothing else you can do about it.

FYI about framegeneration. If your fps is limited to 60, the game will render at 30fps, the rest of 30 is framegenerated, so you might see some stutter or other weird stuff. To make better use of framegeneration use 90fps limit or better yet 120, it basically doubles the fps.
It reduces real fps when limiting the fps, but yeah gpu will thank you for it even more. So to make proper use of it you need at least 120 refresh rate, key word proper use.

I tried all this and still no good unfortunately, installed the latest GPU drivers too

If you have HAGS (hardware accelerated gpu scheduling) disabled in windows, then you can't use framegeneration.
Really hope maybe this helps ya.

I was stumped the first time I got a RTX 4070 (came from rtx 2070), why I can't use framegen.
Oh my god this was it! enabled it, restarted PC and finally able to turn on frame generation! which is working flawlessly! no more stuttery 80-100fps, solid 144! can't even see any artifacts, perfect thank you!

Hmm explain this frame gen to me. I will test it tonight see if it smooths out my game... 4090 and dlss quality but changing anything to do with dlss does nothing at all I get no more or less fps going from quality to ultra performance...
Domingo_X Feb 12, 2024 @ 12:14pm
At least on my setup (7950X3D + 4090), frame gen with DLSS only seems to work for small stretches. It'll look and work great for 10 minutes and then all of a sudden my FPS will drop to 30fps out of the blue. Or it'll start hiccuping like something isn't syncing correctly. I'll then have to turn frame generation off and on (sometimes DLSS, too) to fix it. Oddly, turning DLSS totally off and enabling frame gen doesn't seem to do this, though. My FPS are way lower, but it's consistent and smooth enough that I prefer it. Even the hitches that occur no matter what my settings are set to are smoothed out in that scenario.

DLSS anf FG needs additional VRAM. But UE5 games a locked to 8GB. Try your settings again with an additional start-option:

-notexturestreaming (in steam startoptions)

this one disable the VRAM cap and your game can use what it needs.

if you dont wish to use a startoption, then you can put this command in your engine.ini

[SystemSettings]
r.TextureStreaming=0

check that out and let me know whether the problems continue

Thanks for the heads up. Trying it now. Frame gen looks/works great before it seems to go haywire, so hopefully that'll do the trick!

Frame generation still seems to eventually go haywire and start causing slowdown and issues with shadows, but it's no longer after 5-10 minutes. It's closer to an hour, which is tolerable for the most part.

My posts to a certain date were removed, unrelated to the problem.
So gonna repost the solution.
