soft caps and hard caps
you know, i'm curious. what are the soft caps and hard caps for the different stats? I'm asking to figure out when to stop leveling certain stats while i'm working on my builds (like when i should stop leveling strength and inferno for a strength-inferno build, when to stop leveling radiance-inferno for an umbral build, etc.)

STR, AGI and RAD:
  • Soft cap 1 - 50
  • Soft cap 2 - 75
  • Hard cap - 97

INF:
  • Soft cap - 50
  • Hard cap - 75

VIT and END:
  • Soft cap - 60
  • Hard cap - 99

IMHO it is not worth going past 75, as the benefits are so low, they can be completely disregarded.

thank you very much. i was curious because i'm working on making builds for co-op and pvp stuff (if i can find people), and i was gonna stop at a certain level on the builds so i wanted to best optimize the stats with the starters i picked

Something worth mentioning. When you get in the upper "caps" it works in ranges that are uneven. Like two levels nothing happens to damage, then the next three levels give damage increases. If I recall agility 76 and 77 only buff defenses then 78, 79, 80 buff both dmg (A or A+ weapons) and def then after 82 it alternated for me until 87 or something. It also does give decreasing returns as well. I didn't write it down the pattern for which levels boost attack when I respec'd my character, they always boost defense up to 97 is where I stopped.

As said before 75 is a good number, but to add on I thing it is optimal for weapons that scale from one attribute. Depending on the number of scaling attributes, more damage can be seen splitting between an A+ and C of two attributes. Instead of 75 to A+ 10 to C level 50 to the A+ attribute and 35 to the C attribute stat for more total damage. Then boost the C attribute with a rune if you can or whatever you feel is best for your utility. If you haven't decided 50 is a good number overall for everything until you have decided which weapons you are going to bring to 10+. Once you have decided what your favorite weapons and armors are of the hour, and how much health you want, respec to fine tune.

i think i understand. i know for my pure umbral build my main focus is on my spells and the catalyst i'm using. just trying to find a decent melee to work with (still using a +5 putrid child sword)

Rosamund's Sword is also a good option.

i know. i just may wind up going through NG+ with it because i see it requires 13 strength and agility to wield, and i haven't leveled either stat from the putrid child start

I know the feeling. Can you use rings to boost your stats so you can try out the move set first?

Personally I would stick with the Putrid Child Sword instead of leveling outside of the pure build. But I am the kind of girl who likes to max out one thing before going to another.

rings i think only give 1 to the respective stat? and Putrid Child starts with 8 strength, 8 agility. but i think i know the moveset, because my agility-radiance build uses Judge Cleric's sword, and it's a long sword as well

tbh it is apparent to me that there is no meta , so you can give yourself those 10 levels, whatever they are, to equip the sword. I think it's worth it

Why are the Rad and Inf caps so wildly different ? Wouldn't it make more sense to have them cap out at the same for two following reasons: Umbral magic scaleing off of both, inf and Rad increasing your mana pool together.

This is even worse than i thought
