So the solo players can play solo in peace, without risk of being griefed and harassed by people who enjoy making others miserable.
So the coop players can play coop, without the risk of being griefed and harassed by people who enjoy making them miserable.
So invaders can invade players who actually want to play with them.
So the developers keep the support of every player.

Or make the mirror free and permanent.
The way it is now, gives off the wrong signal. People shouldn't have to pay in order to not be griefed by invaders.
You can take the risk that you won't be invaded and no use one, or go for the reward of saving more souls by not spending one. Then both options have potential benefits.
