Where to go? No map and no objectives??
Hi Guys,

I really wish there was a proper map or a guide or some sort. Yes, the game is an open world and exploring. But there should be an objective and guide to where to go. Same with Elden ring.

Yes yes yes, I know you will say no spoon feeding or hand holding but games like Witcher 3 and horizon zero dawn has better maps and objectives. I know you have to shine the lamp and/or go to the land of the dead to get elsewhere or move forward but a bit of a guide will be helpful.

youve got little maps, full of secrets and notes. granted not very accurate, but they show stuff like 'go up, generally' 😀

Its a soulslike...we dont do maps and handholding here (except ER but its open world so...)

This is how Souls-like (or Lords-like as I like to call them) games are. No map, no minimap, no compass, no objective markers. You can easily find guides online for what you need to do and some drawn up maps that may help, but it really comes down to repeat play and memorization. After 50+ hours, you'll know how to traverse most, if not all, of the game.

Go hit fextralife for walkthroughs, but I recommend as a new player to give it a shot without all of that. Take your time and check every path. Double check most areas with your lamp, lots of secret areas. Make sure to stock up on vestige seeds so you can plant checkpoints as you explore.

Except good souls likes naturally guide you in the right direction just by way of their incredible level design. That is not the case here. I spent way too long going in circles because the game doesn't really guide you.

I eventually just bumbled by way onto the correct path through sheer stubbornness.

Well if you know what people are going to say (because it is true) it is a pointless post, isn't it?

btw, you go to the pillars of red light, those are your navigational aids and the world isn't a massive open field where you have a ton of options as to where to go. I am certain you will manage if you just keep going.

And then there is me who played Carrion through including the update area with 6.5 hours without a guide.

You suck without maps, well to get good at it, just try to do without one.

Prolly the problem is that you don't like the world design, everything the same for ya, everything is boring. That would explain not remembering where you've been and where you've not been, what shortcuts exist etc.
As that's how it's for me, I don't care, I don't remember.

I don't even bother with journal in the game, it's cool to look at after going through the places, but not really useful, as it's just some other persons idea how they see the world.

Sounds like a skill issue. Sorry to hear that.

Like the only tip is either start liking the world design till you start remembering it, or use guides.
There are no other tips, besides the journal which is useless imo.

Like just go where you haven't gone before -.-

Steam overlay even supports note making now.

I didn't find any levels except Lower Calrath (don't know if I got it right, the place that's on fire) hard to navigate through at all.

Having said that I did finish Elden Ring by watching Youtube walk through videos as there was no map or guide which sucks. This made me finish the game later than normal because of all the pauses, loading Youtube and watch the bloody ads and then the video then continue.

Downside is that you will see spoilers in the video but that is the risk to take. Will have to do the same for this.

The game is linear though, go through a area, fight a boss, then you are in another area, rinse and repeat.

Open world is see castle, walk to castle.
