Boss Weapons
We've observed that some players have heavily relied on specific boss weapons and spells for PVP, which has led to a less diverse gameplay experience. To address this, we've made quite a few adjustments to these items:
Boss weapons will now have 10 levels instead of 5, and we've modified their upgrade curves. While they remain potent, they are no longer overpowered in PVP.
Ok... so what was the point of making boss weapons go to +10?
To piss people off into leaving due to their chunks vanishing into the ether.
This is the whole text from the patch notes ------------> PVP
Boss Weapons
We've observed that some players have heavily relied on specific boss weapons and spells for PVP, which has led to a less diverse gameplay experience. To address this, we've made quite a few adjustments to these items:

The mana costs for Pieta's Blessed Reflections and Infernal Hounds invocation spells have been significantly increased.
Exploding bolts and shattering bolts now require more ammunition to use.
The usage cost of Corrupted Banner Javelin has increased, and its damage output has been nerfed.
To facilitate this transition, we've temporarily reduced the cost of Deralium Chunks at the shrine, making it easier for players to get their boss weapons from 5 to 10, but also to make it easier to try out different weapons and create more varied builds.
Our goal is to foster a more varied and enjoyable gaming experience for all, while avoiding overpowered weapons. We appreciate your understanding and ongoing support.
honestly they didnt think this one through. finding the mats to upgrade a weapon hard enough as is, this was a bad change
it negatively effects the entire playerbase because they couldnt balance properly? and its our fault? why dude?
So if I'm comprehending this right, it's because they were too powerful? If that's the case, couldn't they have just reduced the max damage to whatever it is now?
To be honest I don't know. I upgraded pieta's sword back to max level (now +10) and it doesn't feel anyhow weaker than before in pve.
Because there is no difference between balancing in pve and pvp in LOTF I would assume that boss weapons are still as powerful as before patch. At least if you are able to get the lost deralium chunk back to upgrade your weapon to max level.
We dont know the logic behind their decisions... but at some point they will have to give some info, because people are pissed and with good reason
Thanks, but my point was that nothing in the patch notes actually answers the question. As others have said, if they want to nerf them just nerf them. Adding upgrade levels isn't necessarry.
The problem is, say you recently started a NG+1,2 etc., and you don't have the materials, resources and money to max out a weapon. You're now extremely hindered from moving forward in the game because they just cut your weapon's power down by half or more when you're at a point in the game where it should be maxed out.
That's just one example. I'm sure you can imagine more. Like even time invested into grinding for the materials. Imagine coming back to play and your weapons damage is cut in half.
