Is this a remake of their 2014 game with the same name?
I heard that one was a flop?

It wasn't a flop. I played and beat the original.
It was no dark souls for sure, but i sure enjoyed it more than I enjoyed some other games I played around that time. Bound by Flame I had to force myself to actually beat.
Dragon's Dogma was more enjoyable but a bit weird and tedious.
You can look at the metacritic for BBF and see how iffy that game was.

This remake/sequel is definitely more souls-like friendly, in a very dark, beautiful world on a new engine and is a lot better than the original game. But they definitely played it safe and stuck to something that was familiar to Souls players.

The original game took risks and tried to do something new and different, and it was not a bad game, but was not a great game either.

Yeah first one was a good game.

Might not be now, but was for me when I played it a few years after release. Kept me totally entertained.

This is a reboot by a different studio, despite playing in the same world there is only small bits and pieces that remind you of the original title if you played it. This one feels alot more Dark Souls than the OG title, but maintains some of the insane clunky tracking attacks. So far i'd say it's among the better DS clones.
I'd say this is a pretty nice blend of more like demon's souls/ds2 and bloodborne
its same name this is fact
