Doubled it to prevent new players from stumbling into areas they shouldn't be.
Doubling the price is a dumb way to prevent new players from getting lost.
If a new player farms for the key now, they'll be out 18k for content that is too hard for them. at least before it was only 9k.
Plus it makes getting the key early more annoying for the people that want it
Yesterday I stumbled into Perch Descent and noped out of there p. quickly.
Is it because nincompoops wander into tough areas and then they keep crying and bubbling on forums the game has "artificial difficulty"?
Because you have to understand the mentality of the common gamer. You see, you and I realize when something takes too long to kill, you obviously aren't suppose to be there yet, but subject X, doesn't do that. They instead beat their heads on the walls and expect different results and THEN complain it is too hard, making the devs have to look at a problem, that isn't a problem at all. So, to stop this, they rose the price of the key.
And 18k is lots of level for someone who insist on getting it anyway during their first playthrough because they are curious.
If you're playing and hit a sudden difficulty spike you can always go explore other areas to see if they are any easier
I will not buy it only in one case: if I knew that I cant handle enemies behind the door.
In all seriousness, it's a very niche demographic to cater towards and make changes specifically for them. Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if people find skips that makes the key irrelevant in the future. Hell, the price increase might encourage it. Game's still quite new and hasn't been busted open yet.
+1
This is not always the case. The Perch key insinuated that a valuable items will be present and first few doors were just simply that, room with some loot on the ground. However, later doors for some reason introduced a whole new area to progress through, which is not common in a games of these genre. I realized this area is not for me as it was extremely hard to deal with those enemies so I came later.
One additional thing that definitely lead to players using the key and venturing to these areas was the fact pretty much all YT guides that appeared before the release of the game suggested to buy the key immediately and get rich fast.
However, the game has very poor indication where a player should progress and you can push into areas that are a lot more difficult too early. I have cleared most of Abbey before I cleared Fitzroy gorge, Carlath or Revelation Depths. The only indication the game gave me was when I found 3rd rune table and Gerlined refused to take it and mumbled something about order of things.
I think it is fine to have the price of the key increased. Most players will get it for free next time they play because Tormund leaves it on the ground along with a letter.
