Hand Over Stuff

When you speak with someone and then get the prompt to "Hand Over Something" that you found, is it always best to do so? It seems like that is the game mechanic that is leading you to do what the game needs you to do, but I wonder.

Any comments on handing over the stuff when you get the prompt will be appreciated.

The only stuff you hand over that gives a negative outcome for that character is tied to the Umbral ending, but there are pre-requisites tied to getting those items in the first place.

If you haven't found Mother's Lull AND not cleansed any beacons then you will never obtain these items to hand over.
