If you kill lightreaper early, you're ♥♥♥♥ out of luck for her questline, and Isaac's!
Shame on you for being good at the game!
Tying a questline to the summoning mechanic is really bad in a game where the fun in boss fights is also that they can be fought anyway players like it (From stopped doing that in their later games), even worse if there are more NPC's with quests related to the summoning in the same boss. Also, we have to die once so we can summon those NPC's, as OP said, shame on you for being good at the game, very stupid.
I think the better way to solve this would be Kukajin quest being completed with 2-3 bosses; the summoning being available from the get go; and no more than 1 NPC's quest tied to a single boss fight.
To add on, it would be nice if we didnt have to keep the NPC alive until the end of the fight (actually idk if it's needed for the questlines in this game, but it's better if we can just summon and fight along to fulfill the quest requirements).
EDIT_______
No need to keep Kukajin alive, just confirmed, she died in the middle of the fight and I still had to pay her.
NPC's dont have to stay alive to complete the quest.
