The level design of this game
The exploration and level design of this game is way better than any FromSoftware games, they should really learn from LotF devs if they want to make a good game next time.
Elden Ring DLC will probably feels pretty bad compared to what we're experiencing in this game right now.

Ad level design in FromSoft games - the majority of DS1 is awesome, majority of BB levels are awesome and most legacy dungeons in ER are awesome. Everything else feels p. meh today.

So far LotF levels have been amazing, agreed, especially combined with Umbral.

The level design in this game is terrible. Example, there's a tiny platform you have to walk across while multiple archers are shooting at you and if they hit you you get knocked off and the only bonfire is about 10 minutes away so you have to spend all that time walking back to try that difficult platforming. And theres enemies on the run back that can kill you.

Oh wait, that wasnt this game, that was dark souls 1 anor londor a REAL masterpiece of level design!

While you aren't wrong the level design in LOTF is amazing and one of its strongest points, or even an upgrade from DS3 I think it would be unfair to call FromSoft games bad simply because their level designs are different. Especially since LOTF levels were designed with no vestiges in mind for NG+, so everything has to connect well to each other between areas and thoughtful shortcuts. While FromSoft games will have like twice as many fast travel points and even a map in Elden Ring. They are just doing the same things differently.

If you open your menu there's a tab called Journal, this shows you key landmarks of what to follow to progress the main path. You first need to find a map of the area, but they are usually at the start of a level or the end of the previous one and hard to miss. But they'll show you like you need to find this door with bells around it, or this giant statue, or this staircase with large heads, etc. It really makes a difference knowing these clues.

It's actually true, the map layouts are great and look pretty. Only problem is that you can't separate the map layout from the enemy encounters when talking about level design. And in this game enemy encounters are terrible.

Level design from an artisitc standpoint is spot on, especially in some of the umbral sections. Enemy positioning though ruins the good though

The game is a lot of fun, but, no way, the level design is really bad

Why must you poke this decrepit old corpse? lmao

It's absolutely brilliant. You have to learn it and understand the bigger picture to truly appreciate it. Until then, you're just getting lost a lot, and nobody likes being lost.
